Default Super rare 1997 EBMM EvH

    Super rare 1997 EBMM EvH.
Super rare, considering Ernie Ball only made the EvH model from 1990 to 1995.

and this seller claims to have two!

I doubt it is a fake. THe top is starting to fade though. Prices have dropped on these. It is way over priced.

    No, I don't think it's fake.
    It's actually a gorgeous guitar!
    I wish it were mine.

I'm just wondering why the seller thinks it's a '97 model.

Whew, saw that this guy lives in Houston and thought that Filthy 150 had sold my EBMM on ebay.

Then I saw it was purple, (Which I own too).

So Yance, Broken, here's your chance to own a real legit EBMM. It's just a small bank loan away.

I think this guy is just clueless. It says actually this in the description:

"Check out my other 1997 EVH Ernie Ball Music Man guitar also up for auction."

He thinks he has two of them

This guy is a big time vintage collector and a rather prominent Houston attorney. He had two EVH's / I bought one. His purple flametop (1995 model I believe) is also nice but not one I chose to grab at this time.

He just doesn't know the years, it looks legit. My pink one is still rarer.

I see semi-regular postings on eBay for Wolfgangs where the sellers assume the "91" at the start of the serial number marks the year of manufacture. I guess people don't know how to call or email Peavey (or Ernie Ball, as the case may be) to learn the actual date. Kind of an important thing to have right when selling an expensive guitar, don't you think?!

Well you can't tell much by EBMM's serial numbers. My Pink #83204 was built in 1992 and my Amber #84501 was built in 1995, and they're not that far off in sequence. So you know it doesn't work that way. I am quite sure there more than 1,300 EBMM's built between my '92 and '95. You definitely do need to call Ernie Ball to find out for sure.

I believe the story on that was that the neck plates weren't delivered in sequential order, so rather than try and sort them all out they just affixed them to guitars in random order. So, yeah, the only way to know the date of an EBMM EVH is to contact them.

When I first called EB about my Axis, I not only got the exact date it was "born," but I also learned what store it sold out of new (Guitar Center in Chicago, in this case). I'd say they do a good job of keeping detailed records.

    +1

They can also tell, by serial number, the color of the guitar.
This is really helpful if you have any suspicions of a refin, or if someone is trying to pass one off as a "rare" color.

i think I know who you're talking about. That guy actually trained his secretary to know gear so that when his contacts at local stores called with something, they could tell her and she would give the "yes" or "no" to charge his account.
