UPDATE: MusicRadar spoke exclusively to Joe Satriani himself this morning. He had this to say: "What can I say? I guess I'm crazy... But, I'm just looking to achieve the best guitar sound every moment I'm plugged in, and that brought me back to Marshall Amps."

Where this leaves his relationship with Peavey remains to be seen. If you have tickets to any of the upcoming Chickenfoot shows and you catch a glimpse of Satch's backline, let us know what he's using!
Maybe it's not Ed, maybe it's some disease being carried by Mike and Sam!

I thought it was odd that he wasn't using the 50-watt JSX they were supposedly developing, and then I thought it was also odd that he was just using the clean channel on the amps along with his Satchurator. I had suspected he grew tired of the lead channel sound of his amps, and it looks like maybe that's the case.

Hasn't Joe's tone always been a pedal into a clean channel? I thought that is how he usually generated his sound.

And I know that this probably isn't the case here due to Marshall's announcement, but don't most North American bands rent whatever is handy when they tour Europe due to the expense of transporting that equipment?

That is an interesting point. Mike Anthony even switched to a Peavey rig , so you'd think that some tour support from Peavey would be in order. Then again, with this economy, maybe that support pertains to the U.S. only.

It's also interesting that the pic of The 'Foot on Peavey's site doesn't have Joe in it.

What is even odder is the info in the link I posted above has been altered since I put it up in the past half hour. Initially, it spoke of a "Peavey backline to be used on tour". It now only refers to one being used during the recording of the album. Huh?

Not only is Joe NOT in the picture, he's not even mentioned as a band member...

"Chickenfoot, the supergroup formed by bass legend Michael Anthony with Sammy Hagar and Red Hot Chili Pepper Chad Smith, relies on a Peavey backline for its self-titled debut album, released on June 5."

My goodness, you are absolutely correct! I completely missed that. Wow!

The original piece was substantially longer, and went into detail about Satriani's amps, with the heading "Chickenfoot Debuts With Joe Satriani, Michael Anthony and Peavey Amps". It now reads "Chickenfoot Debuts With Michael Anthony & Peavey Amps".

EDIT: Good job coming up with the original article, voivod. Nicely done, and thank you.

Here is how it currently looks:

Gotta say...I'm a little surprised. They are great sounding amps. The JSX 50 has just been released too. Wonder how much it'll cost him to back out of the contract. It makes me wonder if their was in fact use of Marshalls during recording. There's a couple songs on there that kind of stuck out as Marshall-ish in their tone. Segments of Sexy Little Thing. And the Ballad, (Can't remember the name now ...Sorry) If you listen to those two songs, the sound is considerably different. He coulda just plugged into some studio amps for a different sound, but something obviously jogged him in the direction of Marshall. Hmmmmmm.
She looks so $#@!'n good ,so sexy and so frail....Somethin's got the bite on me, I'm goin' straight to Hell.

That isn't the point. As recently as April, Satriani was working as a Peavey spokesman, endorsing his own JSX50 amp line, going so far as to travel to Frankfurt Germany to do a trade show then. His relationship with Peavey has been a strong one, but out of the blue this situation completely deteriorated in a matter of (seemingly) moments. It doesn't make sense, and has little if anything to do with merely looking to "switch companies in search of better product and endorsement situation".
