    Default DIRECT MOUNTING PICKUPS

im looking at the holes in the pickup i am direct mounting and it looks pretty small. i wouldnt feel comfortable using such small screws if i could even find them. is it common practice to drill these holes larger and ruin the pickup for ring mounting?

    Yep.
Or you could do what Ed did once and secure screws on either side of the foot.

Don't be afraid of using small wood screws (I use pick up ring screws) to mount your pick up directly to pick up cavity- they WILL keep your pick up secure and in place.

    +1
I normally use pickup ring screws as well ...
The screws are fairly long so they will hold the pickup securely in place.
They're also small enough so they won't damage the threads in the mounting legs which would enable me to use the pickup in any other guitar, if I wanted.
