    Evh Frankenstein: The Evolution...

yes a dramatic opening. but, with the right info, pics and what not, i have managed to get a history of the legendary frankenstein. if someone has done this before, forgive me.

first a disclaimer: these pics were all found via:
    -vhlinks
    -vintagekramer
    -google
    -wikipedia
    -metroamp forums

NONE are my own personal. so please, dont thank me for these photos. thank those who provided it.

    pre franky:

    super strat #1:

a fender strat with a mighty mite/PAF/dimarzio pickups in it. first routing. according to the source, it was 1976. franky was built in 74 but not really seen until 76/77. only known pics of it are on this website. please pm me with more info on this one.

good view of head stock (can clearly see fender sticker) and rosewood fingerboard

    franken-paul

a 50's goldtop ed modified. one of the first attempts to mod a guitar. originally had two p-90's, replaced brigdge with a PAF, resprayed black. also in 1976.

    now for the main event

first franky: the world famous black and white. body and neck from boogie bodies (supplied charvel). bridge pocket routed to accommodate the humbucker. 1958 fender tremelo (the sunburst super strat? hmmmm) or brass on the VH1 cover, PAF pickup (more on that below), schaller tuners, brass nut with huge spaces (according to divebombinc over at the metroamp forums, the nut was incorrectly spaced for that type of neck), homemade pick guard, northern ash body, and maple cap neck. said to way as much as a les paul

    better picture here: http://epi3.hp.infoseek.co.jp/GuitarLarge.jpg

note: according to several sources, ed's main squeeze had a pickup from a 1962/61 es-335. i researched PAFs sometime ago. true PAFs (random magnet, etc) ended early 1961. the shorter, alnico v i believe magnet was introduce then. 1962 started the pat no. pickups. this means that either ed had a late 1960 (no S) es-335, switched the pup prior to making franky, or the specs on eds pickup are as follows:
-rewound by either ed or seymour duncan
    -alnico V short magnet
    -42 gauge plain enamel wire
    -paraffin wax self potted

now the Seymour Duncan 78 pickup is SUPPOSED to be a repro of ed's PAF. it has an Alnico II magnet in it. however, since i doubt seymour looked at the pickup's magnet, it probably was a mistake.

    more to come

That first pic isn't THE Franky is it?

Was that just a guitar that Ed decided to slap a humbucker into?

one more pic of old franky in 78:

first transformation: tape stripes removed, pickups added, pickguard and rosewood neck put on (probably from the fender super strat)

red coat added, had pickguard on for brief time. neck changed back to original maple cap one

pickguard removed. no pickguard (WTF?), red inactive single coil in neck, tele pickup in middle, PAF at bridge (Only working pickup. still has the 58 trem on it.

neck changed to dragon charvel one

notice pickup cavity: paf is bolted on with not 2, but 4 screws

    more info on the way

from what i understand, it turned into a spare-parts-ocaster for the dragon charvel and other guitars. look at them and you'll see what i mean.

and no it was not the original franky. but it predates any known pics of it

What gets me is that it really looks like a total piece of shit up close. That humbucker is almost melted. I don't know how he played that thing.

Yeah, well, I'd still keep the two on the outside tight and four middle ones a bit loose. Just in case. Those tiny screws don't offer me much confidence when it comes to heavy divebombing.

holy shit guys. didnt even realize that. i actually got it off of the metro amp forums. i apologize to whomever made that post. these pics were not taken off this website sorry again.

yeah delete this please. this one is alot less informative than that one. much apologies

this was not really made for the pics, but rather for the info. alot of people are wondering what pickup is in the franky now and other things, but all of that can be found on the web. sorry again, next thread will actually be a good one.
