Default So, does anyone think they'll play any VH songs at all?

I've read a couple things that would lead me to believe otherwise, but I find it odd that they say they wont be playing any VH tunes or anything. Especially given the fact that I know Hagar and MA haven't toured Europe in years, I figure these fans will be clamoring for such tunes. What do you dudes think?

Nope. They don't want to have any VH comparisons. It's a good idea.

With the new album, a couple covers, a Satch solo spot, perhaps a RHCP song, and Sam's solo back catalogue, they have plenty to play.

It's a good idea in theory, for them, although it would be interesting if they played NO VH tunes on this Europe jaunt. I think they should at least give that to the Euro fans.

So you do think they'll throw in some Satch/Hagar solo tunes huh?

Why should they give VH covers to Euro fans? They're NOT VH. It's not a Sammy solo show either. They're a NEW band, with a NEW album, and they've made it clear that's the way they want it. If people are going to see Chickenfoot to get a VH fix, they're going for the wrong reason. They should go to dig the Foot, not 'pretend' that Satch is EVH while Sam and Mike belt out Good Enough or something.

I think the Sam solo covers will be downplayed as well...I don't think you're going to hear 55 or One Way to Rock. They've rehearsed Rock Candy, and they do a bad ass jam of Bad Motor Scooter, which is a Montrose song, not a Sammy solo song. They've also rehearsed some Zeppelin.

I would be surprised if they don't throw in one RHCP track via Chad, but who knows.

I strongly doubt they'll play any VH. They're trying to break away from that shadow, and rightly so. But hey, ya never know.

I can't imagine once they start playing full two hour sets, that Joe won't have a solo spot.

Any idea what sort of stage time these guys are getting for these European shows? I mean, unless I missed something, most of these are festivals they are playing, which means they may be getting less stage time than "better known" (especially across the pond) acts, right? If that were the case, I'd think they's stick pretty close to what their setlists were like in the club dates here in NA.

I would expect a Satch tune or a Hagar solo tune before an RHCP song, maybe Higher Ground but that's not truly a RHCP tune, I think they could pull it off well.

As for VH songs, I'm not saying people should expect it and pretend like it's VH, but I'm sure there are a lot of people (me included) that would love to hear Satrianis take on some crazy VH shredding. They are a new band, but even with that whole album and a few random covers, it still wouldnt hurt for at least 5 more songs on that setlist.

And yeah, regarding solos...I figure a Satriani medley/jam sesh is in order and a short MA solo followed by Hear About It Later or something...at least that's my dream, haha.

Well Sammy said they wouldn't play any VH songs (or other songs from their careers) on THIS tour, but they probably will on the next album's tour. They want to start out doing their own material and not relying on their past careers.

Could depend on ticket sales. If sales are sluggish for the bigger venues, they might have to bust out some Van Hagar.

Meet them in the future, not the pasture. They're a new band!

    LOL.

Anyways, yeah, I don't think they will, maybe next time around.

Are we forgetting the report that said that the setlist would consist of VH, RHCP, Satch, Sammy material???

Plus in the ChickenMash Montage there is a shot of Joe playing and on the wall there looks to be a setlist. It's 3 pages wide. If there is NO Van Halen on there than I have no idea what they will be playing.

I can see them adding one or two different covers to the encore but it I doubt that will happen. Maybe a Zep or Who song to close the show but I'm convinced at this point that this band only wants to play their cd.

Well then it's only going to be a 90 minute show then. And I doubt they will be satisfied with only giving the fans 90 minutes. Maybe for the festivals. But not when they headline.

If they did, I would think 'Runaround' or 'Cabo Wabo'.

They are probably just going to do Sam's solo material.

LOL, you always do that. Like Van Hagar tuneage is necessary for Sam to sell out venues. It's not. If you'd been to any recent Sammy shows, you'd know that.

But what would I expect from the same fella who thought Bitten by the Wolf was a direct reference to Ed's kid, and who thought Down the Drain was a joke rip-off of RWTD as an indirect slag from Joe at Ed.

BTW, still lovin' that sig. You got burned, and never let it go, eh? Meet me at the jungle gym at recess, Johnny.

I wouldn't be surprised if they threw in one or two. They might want to throw the fans a little bone, but don't want to use the VH tunes as a crutch of some kind. If they do throw something in, I wouldn't be surprised to see them dig a little deeper, maybe find something that they didn't even play regularly with VH.
