    Default A Soldier's Rage...

I urge you all the read this article from The Toronto Star. I don't have much to say about as I will let you decide what to make of it. American and or Canadian need not apply even though it's a Canadian newspaper. There are millions of these soldiers all over the world and they deserve our support DURING their tours and once they RETURN home.

Sounds a bit like the stories one would read when the soldiers returned from Vietnam. Also sounds like no one learned the lessons from back then either.

An exclusive Star series investigates how the war in Afghanistan is creating a dangerous new class of offender in Canada – and finds growing evidence in jails, courtrooms and homes across the country
A bunch of this happening in Colorado (Ft. Carson, Colorado Springs mostly). No surprise after multiple tours of carnage, then returning home and told "okay thanks, bye.., now go find a job".
Filling out a job application for a lot of these guys is scarier than enemy bullets.

A Ft. Carson soldier is behind bars accused of brutally murdering 19-Year-old Judilianna 'Judi' Lawrence.
Specialist Robert Marko was arrested Monday night on his 21st birthday.
He faces first degree murder and sexual assault charges.
According to court documents obtained by 11 News, Marko led detectives back to the crime scene on Monday. He told them after having intercourse with the victim, they got into an argument.
At that point, he allegedly blindfolded and gagged the victim before cutting her throat
    .

That's one of several disturbing stories out of Ft. Carson recently. Our government does virtually nothing to support or soldiers transition from the carnage of war back into society.

Watching an interview the other day of a Ft Carson soldier in jail for murdering one of his buddies in Colorado Springs.
Said he was on his 3rd tour and in another very violent (to put it mildly) fire fight in Afghanistan, and just a few hours later sitting at home at the dinner table with his family in Colorado Springs.
Sure they fill out a questionnaire before shipping home but of course they don't say they're disturbed and need to stick around to be evaluated and counseled. They're just shipped back to the world.

What's amazing to me is that, when I read stories like this, I am instantly reminded of the old Star Trek: TNG episode where the planets solution to not being able to "unprogram" their warriors after the war was over was to send them to their own planet instead. The Hunted was the name of the episode, it was clearly aimed at how little the military does for their own after they are done with them to help them back into society.

First off, the US Army has had out-processing since the 1970s. The cases at Ft Carson involve active duty soldiers, and yes they fudge their health forms so they can go straight home instead of cooling their jets on base.

I don't know why the Army does this (not true, I do know why, they're trying to be as family friendly as possible), there were problems during the 80s after long FTXs when they'd just turn the men loose instead of keeping them in garrison for even a few hours.

    The Army HAS a program:

    http://www.realwarriors.net/

The problem is that it is hard to get the men and women who need help to seek help. The other problem is that this is the UNITED STATES ARMY, and mental health issues are not taken seriously enough in the civilian word, and this translates directly into the Army at every level. Example: Eddie Van Halen is clearly bi-polar. Yet many people jump his shit because he does crazy things. He does crazy things because he's crazy. Read the main Van Halen forum, nobody cuts Ed slack. Same thing goes for the Army, you have a kick-ass, Ranger qualified NCO who is a death machine in combat, but he's starting to show signs that he's not all there. His command doesn't get him help, they pile it on.

Truth be told, the Army has more resources for those dealing with mental health issues than any civilian organization. The trick is to get soldiers into those programs.
