I swear when this project was being talked about in it's early stages I thought it would be nothing more than something that people like us would know about. But CNN? Conan O'Brien? Splattered all over Best Buy circulars?? Never expected this at all. Thought we'd be dealing with nothing more than a short lived novelty.

VH with Sam ('86-'96) - Incredible era....."We have renamed this town 'New Halen!'.
VH with Gary ('98) - Fucking disaster. WTF was that??
VH with Wolf/Dave ('12-'15) - Amazing comeback. Smokin' album and tours.

I feared the same thing...guess we underestimated the public's hunger for rock.

well...without new music from VH in 04 or 07 or the Police, there just wasn't as much to talk about but I also think Chickenfoot is making the concerted effort to ensure that this is a top shelf marketting program.

Specific to the 04 tour, I didn't hear a single thing about it until a week or two before they arrived in Houston. I heard the tale end of It's About Time on the radio and I saw an ad hocking tickets for the show. That one really flew under my radar.
    Stay out of it, dude.

They really are doing a top notch job of getting the word out.
In an age where U2 and Springsteen and GnR were only able to sell in the 250k-500k unit range, at least initially, i'm very curious as to what sort of sales figures these guys can put up.

I read Bob Lefsetz alot, and he makes it clear that kids today don't buy CD's.
I know it's true in my house.
When i was young, I blew untold amounts on records, and i still buy discs. But my kids find music their own way, on Sirius, on You Tube, somewhat through MTV and Muchmusic, and when they know what they like, they get it from Limewire. (I tried to nix that at first, but i've long since gave up the fight. I pay for my music whenever possible.)
The Edge... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over.

    Irony for a thousand, Alex.......

The classic rock station out here (KLOS) played It's About Time the day it was released to radio about five times. Didnt hear it again after that.

The station that USED to be their competitor (KLSX) which became a talk-radio station way the fark back in 1993 ran promos for the upcoming shows constantly. Fuckers didnt even play music anymore and I heard about the damn thing almost every break....AND they were giving away tickets.

Sammy is a master at marketing at this point in his career. When he has a product that people are interested in he knows how to promote it. The Wabo's didn't have a large following but Sam figured out a way to play in front of 3-5 thousand people a night every other year for a decade. Sam seems to get on CNN every other year or so to talk about something or another.

I understand that kids don't buy CD's but CF isn't counting on kids buying their music but they will take any kid that does like it. Seems to me that artist and record companies would understand that they need to sell something with the CD other than the music. The heat sensitive thing works as a hook to get people to buy the cover and not just the music. Every CD released should have some sort of 'golden ticket' much like the Wonka Bars in Chuck and the Coco Factory.

I see college kids spending 8 bucks for lunch for a bagel, chips and a drink so you would think they would be willing to spend 10 bucks for the cd and a ticket for a vip pass for a show at the city of your choice.

Actually, when you think about it, is it possible that back in 2004 the band worked hard to keep everything low key, what with EVH being such a fuckaroo?

They managed to get through 80 dates without too much public negativity in spite of what seemed to be a terrible situation.
If all of the bad mojo had become public, they may not have been able to finish the tour, and that would cost somebody some fairly serious cash.

    Just thinkin out loud.

    I don't recall that.
I only remember one CNN bit, and that was Alex and Sammy professing their love for each other and how all was forgiven, or forgotten, or something.

yeah, i wish i could find that. He was marking the fretboard with a magic marker, said he been playing forever but still had to do that. blah blah blah...i think he did it so he could play the guitar as fucked up as he wanted and still be in the right general area. somebodys got to have that
