    Default USA Today Review

    Good reviews keep coming.

Listen Up: Chickenfoot: No spring chickens, but rock is timeless

    By Jerry Shriver, USA TODAY
With a cumulative age of 212, this hard-rock superquartet's cast (Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony, ex-Van Halen; Chad Smith of Red Hot Chili Peppers; and Joe Satriani) already has flogged every "hell, yeah, let's get it on, sexy mama" cliché in the genre. But not quite to the point of exhaustion.
That genre, like Satriani's screaming guitar runs and Hagar's yowl, also is timeless. Each new generation of hot-to-trot headbangers needs a facts-of-life primer for summer, and on Chickenfoot(* * * 1/2 out of four) their elders show they're still capable of providing one that's relevant and potent yet not too pervy.

PICK OF THE WEEK: Sean Kingston's 'Fire Burning'
Co-writers Hagar and Satriani have embedded plenty of hooks and compact solos in these tunes, and the refreshingly agile rhythm section motors them along.

Middle-agers who sneak a listen won't have to apologize for their stirrings, and their mates may thank them later. — Jerry Shriver

    >Download: Turnin' Left, Get It Up, My Kinda Girl, Learning to Fall>Skip: Sexy Little Thing, Oh Yeah

That's the sign of a writer desperately trying to avoid the "supergroup" cliche.
    Stay out of it, dude.

Skip "Sexy Little Thing"? That's the best song on the album IMO.
