    Default A-Team movie, Take 2

Hopefully this thread will stay on track and not get derailed like the last one.

Neeson in Talks to Play A-Team's Hannibal!
    Source: Variety June 9, 2009

Earlier this evening, it was confirmed that Bradley Cooper (The Hangover) is in talks to play Lt. Templeton "Faceman" Peck in the Joe Carnahan-directed The A-Team, and now, Variety has broken the news that Liam Neeson (Taken) is in negotiations to play John "Hannibal" Smith!

20th Century Fox is planning a late August production start for the June 11, 2010 release based on the 1980s TV series.

Ridley Scott is producing with Jules Daly and series creator Stephen J. Cannell, with Tony Scott executive producing through Scott Free. Carnahan and Brian Bloom polished a script by Skip Woods.

The role of Hannibal was originated by George Peppard, while Faceman was played by Dirk Benedict.

Cooper has established himself as a commodity after his starring role in Todd Phillips-directed hit "The Hangover." He just completed playing the title role opposite Sandra Bullock in "All About Steve."

Still to be cast are the roles of Capt. "Howling Mad" Murdock, played by Dwight Schultz in the original, and Sgt. "B.A." Baracus, the role that made Mr. T an '80s icon.

Liam Neeson? Hmm...maybe they are going to try to do this as a serious flick instead of a tongue-in-cheek parody...or maybe Neeson wants to stretch his comedic wings a bit.
    Stay out of it, dude.

Heard an interview with Dirk and "Murdock" the other day on Dennis Miller radio and they made no bones about the fact that they were conservatives and that the A-team had that kind of political bent. I'll be curious to see what the themes of the new one are considering the modern political climate.

Seems like Neeson as Hannibal might stray away from that "hardass Col." type that Peppard had going on. It'll be interesting.

BTW, didn't read the first thread, so hopefully politics isn't what derailed it, I apologize if it was. I just found it interesting to hear the guys from the original talk about it.

'The A-Team' Is Ready for a 'Rampage'

After months of speculation and official denials, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that former UFC champ Quinton "Rampage" Jackson will take on Mr. T's role of B.A. Baracus in the movie adaptation of the 1980s show "The A-Team." It will be Jackson's biggest film role to date, and he beat out many other contenders for the part, including rappers Common and The Game.

Jackson joins Liam Neeson, who will play the team leader Hannibal, and Bradley Cooper, who is signed to play Faceman. Jackson recently cancelled a planned bout with Rashad Evans at UFC 107 in December to clear his schedule for the movie, which begins filming in the fall.

"The A-Team" will update the story from the show, replacing the team's Vietnam backstory with one set the Middle East. In a follow-up on Tuesday, The Hollywood Reporter said that Sharlto Copely, the breakout star of "District 9" is being considered for the team's fourth member, "Howling Mad" Murdock. Jessica Biel is also in talks to join the cast as a woman from Faceman's past who is hunting them all down. The movie is schedule for release on June 11th, 2010.

    =====================

Yes, District 9 is a theatrical hit, and now its 35-year old unknown lead Sharlto Copley is joining the Hollywood big leagues.

Twentieth Century Fox confirms that the South African Copley will play the goofy oddball pilot H.M. “Howling Mad” Murdoch in Twentieth Century Fox’s remake of The A-Team from director Joe Carnahan.

Also, joining the cast of Liam Neeson (Col. John “Hannibal” Smith), Bradley Cooper (Lt. Templeton “Face” Peck), and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson (B.A. Baracas) is Jessica Biel who will portray an ex-flame of Faceman’s. Watchmen’s Patrick Wilson will also be featured as a CIA operative.

While the premise of Carnahan’s A-Team will still center on four war vets wrongly convicted of a crime they didn’t commit, the tone will be less silly and more slick. Production has already begun on the Vancouver-based set with the high-octane actioner set to bow next June.

Rampage quit fighting for the UFC, to focus on his acting career. I guess he believes this movie will be huge. I'd like to see it.
