    Default Trans Tem knock offs?

Are there any Trans Trem knock offs that are any good? I know Ed Roman was selling real ones awhile back for crazy prices. Are there any other tremolos (perhaps licensed under Steinberger) that will do the same thing?

There's no actual "knockoffs" unless you call the Gibson/Musicyo thing a knockoff. I've looked for years for some other transposing unit close to Ned's baby but to no avail. Yes Roman has some originals, and I agree they are the best as they use forged parts as opposed to cast. If you got a couple grand to burn! Now that's not to say if you track down a cast TransTrem-II from Musicyo or the Bay that it's no good. You just have to baby them a bit more. Keep the right parts clean and lubricated, and don't overtighten things (or you WILL strip threads) and you'll be very happy. They did sell for around a grand through the Music Yo website. Steinberger now has it's own site, and alot of what they were offering seems to be gone in favour of their Synapse and ZT-3 guitars with the Trans Trem III. Their still out there. Just gotta dig a bit. Interesting you brought it up. I've got a real Steinberger jones these days. They were real twisted little instruments. With the right set of EMG's, man you could level the house with their powerful sound.

That's actually quite reasonable. I've seen Type I's going for almost double that. The Type II's were used through the Gibson era, and eventually more and more parts became cast compared to forged to reduce cost. They truly are an engineering marvel. Very cool device. Another guy whos done amazing work is David Torn. He used to play those Klein guitars with the TT. Ugly guitars, but great sound.
