Default WACF - Could this be Magic question

I was listening to this track today and I was wondering if DLR was playing the rhythm acoustic guitar with Eddie. It seems to my ear that there are at least two guitars playing live, perhaps three. I searched the net to no avail.

Just curious if that was the case. If so, I wonder why Dave didn't play a little more acoustic to back up Eddie on some more tracks like this.

It is a cool little piece, I have not listening to it in several years. You can hear the rain in the background, and Nicolette Larson on some of the choruses.

"This song represents the first time Ed recorded with slide guitar (Ted Templeman's idea). He practiced it for a few days, but really didn't know how he'd play the song until the time came. This song prepared him for the next song on which he used a slide: Fair Warning's "Dirty Movies." Dave accompanied Ed by playing acoustic rhhythm guitar."

I wish this was all by my memory but I just opened up my Van Halen Encyclopedia.

On Dave's short lived radio show, he brought an acoustic guitar in one day and played this song. Was pretty cool.

Wish I coulda caught that one but oh well. Now that tune is in my head.

Not bad considering what was there before that.

And he managed to get the title wrong, calling it "Women And Children First" rather than "Could This Be Magic". It's funny, because during interviews at the time of the record's release, he pointed out that the band specifically did not title the song WACF, because radio stations then usually played the title track off of an album first. The band evidently felt the tune was not truly representative of the LP.

    Chef, you are the man.

I doubt I heard Dave's radio show more than 10 times, but I happened to be listening when he did that. Hadn't heard it since. Anytime Dave talked about music, his show was interesting...pretty much the only times.

100% correct Menlow - when Dave talked music he showed that he had a interesting take on it and it was worth listening to.

    Everything else was just drivel.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

    Preferred pronouns: he/him/his

I remember another time, the Rolling Stones had just put a new album out and he was playing some tracks and talking about them. It led into a discussion about old Stones music and other 70's music like Queen and The Who. It was really interesting.

I said at the time that a once a week radio program where Dave played some music and talked about it might have made a really good show.

That was cool! One of the best things about seeing Dave is when he talks about how the classic VH songs were written. I love hearing those stories.

Exactly, in the same vein as to what Dee Snider does in regards to hair metal, "House of Hair" I believe.
