Default DLR Seems Surprisingly Too Quiet

Is it just me or is DLR being too quiet? Correct me if I am wrong, but I have not heard him say much at all since the tour. Does he not want to bite the hand that feeds him so to speak and ensure that he is still in the band? A DLR solo album wouldn't be in demand or do well, so on that level - I can understand why he is not being his usual motor mouth self.

He's been told to keep his mouth shut.

It does seem odd that Dave has kept his mouth shut for how long now, close to a year? Unless there was some payday on the horizon, I don't see how he's done it.

How the mighty have fallen. Before, DLR did his own thing no matter what anyone thought. Now, he just wants to keep his job.

    Yep.

Dave's not even allowed to talk, yet there are still those who believe he could have had Wolfgang removed from the band in favor of Mike.

While I we about the gag order it does seem DLR has been humbled also. Not many guys in his position would be an EMT after the career he has had.

I suspect that was driven by personal desire...no other reason.

A DLR solo album in 2009 would sell better than "Diamond Dave" or "The Best" did in America and Canada, because Van Halen/Roth are so much biggest post-comeback. He's very much back in the spotlight. I think if he was hoping to cash in on it, he'd have done it nearer to the close down of the tour though. Plus "DLR Band" was an indie release, I don't know if the increase in profits this would cause would make it economic but I'm sure an album now would outsell that too.

Might even be in writing, in a contract "we do the talking". If not, I suspect it is purely a case of not wanting to upset the Van Halen brothers. Eddie and Alex might appear to have a lot of energy on stage, but they've got families, other halves, they're getting older, Eddie's a smoker, both abused their bodies a lot in youth....they must find a tour exhausting. Not saying it takes them all this time to recover, but I doubt they're keen to do it again for a while....the tour ended just under a year ago I think? I would say a year to two years is a perfectly reasonable amount of time off for a band their age. Especially when you consider dates were postponed....they were working at getting this tour running from Summer 06 when the return of Roth became a serious proposition, they spent almost TWO YEARS on that damn reunion, not the "late 07 to early 08" that people would have been seeing them out on the road for. Perfectly ready to believe the brothers have further plans already in place.

Plus they never released the promised "Van Halen: The Best Of 1978-1984" CD. I think that'll come out. Either following a new album tour, or pre-facing another greatest hits tour, it'll happen.

When the numbers are that big, does it even matter? Roth's not poor - healthy Van Halen backsales, the vast fortune he would have achieved during his commercial peak [1978-1988 he was raking it in both in terms of album sales and tours, and for the first half of the 90s he continued to make significant money from albums....while his VH releases continued to sell]...really, he could probably find a use for the money from this tour but can't be desperate for it. It's more just his need for limelight.

The Sam & Dave tour grossed somewhere around the $10-12 million mark I think, a tiny bit bigger than Motley Crue's CrueFest did in 2008 (the tour I think, not Motley's own personal income from it). Hell, he woulda got a ton of cash from the several million copies of BOBW which have sold which contained songs he was c redited for...the guy is fine for money.
