Default The Factual Inaccuracy in Movies Thread

I am watching Dazed and Confused and just pointed out to my wife that during the hazing scene there is a 70's Firebird with 82' Camaro wheels on it. The movie is supposed to take place in 1976.

Also, I believe it is Casablanca that has a big one. There is a box in one scene with 'Product of Israel' on the side. There was no Israel during WWII.

    Anyone know of any others?

Casablanca was made in 1942, during WWII. So it was a contemporary film when made.

Israel as we know it, didn't exist until 1948.

all "factual inaccuracies" in movies can be summed up in three little words: it's a movie!

But seriously, it does mess up the flow of a good story when there's stuff in there that just doesn't jive with the rest of the story, whether it's something that seems completely impossible, even in a movie that's pure fantasy to begin with; or a changing of the facts in a movie that's based on history that everyone's familiar with; or just plain incongruous (what time did the Blues Brothers leave the Palace and how did it take them so long to drive 106 miles (something most of us can knock off in less than two hours without driving at a highly accelerated rate of speed) that it went from total darkness to total daylight during their journey?)

yeah that always bugged me. Wasn't the show at 8 pm? They did two songs...so I'm guessing they were on the road by what? 9...9:30...after sneaking out of the theater, dealing with carrie fisher.
    Stay out of it, dude.

well, the show started late, and we are to believe they are on the road after midnight as Twiggy is shown waiting for Elwood (and they were to meet at midnight)

true...but there was something, that led me to believe they took the stage before 10 pm. Maybe I'm just making that up. They do show twiggy waiting for elwood which, if we take it as being time-indicative, then they were on the road around midnight. still gets them into chicago in waaaaaay less 2 hours. They'd have had to have left just before sunrise, which they didn't.

Now then, what COULD have delayed them is evading the police. They may have had to take backroads, hide in the woods, etc.
    Stay out of it, dude.

"So if your date don't work out for any reason, there's a motel up on the interstate. We could say . . . meet . . . around midnight".

Not to turn this into a "Blues Brothers" thread, but I watched the theatrical version the other night and some of the stuff the director had to cut out was just sick. I'll probably never watch the short version again!

That one bugs the hell out of me, especially after how the director said he wanted everything to be period correct. At least it did have a correct 74 white 455 Super Duty in the movie as well.

In the original Halloween movie, I believe set in Illinois, all the vehicles have California license plates. Slight oversight, probably wasn't in the budget. ;-)

There are boat loads of inaccuracies in so many movies but two from Jerry Bruckheimer produced movies really bug me:
    • Pearl Harbor - The scene where pilots were talking to the guy in the tower on a walkie talkie was not possible and the part where the radio transmissions of the Doolittle raid being monitored in Hawaii was equally implausible for 1942 technology.
    • Armageddon - Launching two shuttles at once? Rotating the MIR to create gravity? Civilians in space? Landing on a meteor? I could go on for ever but there wasn't any plausibility to the entire movie.

I don't know about the logistics of launching two shuttles at once, but before this current mission lifted off, both shuttles were on the launch pad(s) at the same time.

You're right, it was set in Illinois, but filmed in Pasadena, hence the license plates.

There's tons of films that are depicted as being a certain town/city and it isn't even in the same state. Rainman, for instance, comes to mind.
