Default And The Worst Drivers In America Live In...

    Where the Worst Drivers Live

The worst drivers in America live in New York. Of course, you knew that. You've been in the Holland Tunnel. But now, we have proof.

GMAC Insurance has released the results of its National Drivers Test for 2009. The test, which measures basic knowledge of driving laws, was given to more than 5,000 drivers from all 50 states and the District of Columbia -- and New Yorkers finished last. Last year's loser, New Jersey, improved its score just enough to leap over New York. Hawaii, California and Georgia rounded out the bottom five.

Idaho and Wisconsin drivers tied for the highest average score, with an 80.6.

The point of the test, of course, is not just to confirm what anyone who's tried to merge onto the Thruway already knew. It's to measure how much we know about safe driving. And the news isn't good.

In a press release, GMAC explains, "Results from the 2009 GMAC Insurance National Drivers Test released today found that 20.1 percent of licensed Americans - amounting to roughly 41 million drivers on the road - would not pass a written drivers test exam if taken today." Most of us have trouble, according to the results, with "questions about yellow lights and safe following distances."

The survey has been given for five years. The average score has fluctuated up and down during that time, but this year it is down - 76.6 percent versus last year's 78.1.

GMAC notes, "In general, geographical regions ranked similarly to previous years, with the lowest average test scores in the Northeast, while the states in the Midwest held the highest averages. When comparing genders, men are still more likely to pass the test than women, but the gap is considerably smaller in 2009 (81 percent of males versus 79 percent of females) than in 2008 (87 percent of males versus 80 percent of females)."

And, "The older the driver, the higher the test score." Drivers over 35 were more likely to pass than those under 35, while men over 45 posted the highest scores, and "the age group with the highest failure rates was young adults (18 to 24 years old)."

Curious how you'd do? Take the test yourself at nationaldriverstest.com. When you're finished, GMAC will even let you play a video game that teaches you how to avoid elderly people and aliens in the roadway (no, we're not kidding).

The results were flawed because GMAC did not take into account that only 1 in 3 of our drivers is insured. So not only did Florida residents fail to go to a GMAC office, they were too fucking stupid to find one in the first place.

Didn't think California would score quite so damn high.

    You ain't lyin'.
Driving in So Cal it's a given eventually you will be invovled in an accident .
Even if you're the best driver some moron will hit you.
I told my old lady I sold my Harley because we needed the money.
    Patrially true.
The biggest reason was I figured one day I would be killed or maimed if
    I kept on riding.
I'll get another one eventually but I'll stay away from L.A.while I'm riding.

I drive the L.A freeways and I admit there are some crazy fuckers driving in the Vegas area.
In some cases I found it worse than L.A.
The 95 between N.Vegas and Henderson was like a thrill ride.
In L.a a lot of the time you're barely moving.
But that doesn't stop the wrecks.

Agreed. Worst drivers I've ever seen were in Houston. Was some years ago but I can't imagine it's gotten any better as traffic across the nation only gets worse and worse. Houston was way worse than Los Angeles. You Texans are total psycho drivers B.

we have two kinds of drivers that screw everything up.

    1. The grazers...these are people who drive the way they zombie walk through a mall....completely unaware of everyone else, staring off at all the colours and shiny lights.

    2. The complete lunatics, usually of the "urban" or "rice rocket" persuasion with their lawn mower engines or their 24" wheels and porn playing on the headrest LCD screens who drive 100 miles an hour when traffic dictates only going 60.

I fucking hate driving around here....lunatics man...people are crazy!

I can narrow it down to the worst cities. Trust me. I'm keeping/making a list. Some of the shit I see out here would make your hair stand on end. When you drive a car, you don't even see a 1/3 of what I see from the advantage I have.

When I'm a little more awake, I'll give you a list of the worst. To start off...anywhere around NYC. Close behind are the homocidal drivers in Houston. I, as of today, have added Seattle to my list.

Two other categories of drivers that make Houston the worst place I've ever driven in. (I can't believe I forgot them!)

    3. The Bubbas...in their dualies careening down the road like it's some dukes of hazzard episode. These redneck bastards though are all hat and no cattle because those dualies have never seen the working side of a ranch and never will as long as they are owned by these suburban cowboys.

    4. 5'2" women in their suburbans, expeditions and other insanely large suvs. They can barely see over the steering wheel and aren't strong enough to turn the wheel but damned if they don't NEED to have one of those things. I never see kids in the damn truck, but I do see them texting away on the IPHONE and checking their paris hilton sunglasses in the rearview.

god I hate people...especially when they get in their cars.
