Default My honest review of the EVH wolfgang...

    Hey Guys...

I got my EVH Wolfgang in Vintage white yesterday and aside from a few hours of sleep, haven't put it down. I've had 5 Peavey Wolfgangs, 3 of which I still own. Here's my honest thoughts on the newest EVH guitar...

Playability - the guitar is extremely well balanced. I played standing up a while and my shoulder wasn't sore, and the guitar itself doesn't feel very heavy, in fact I think it might be lighter than the Peavey Wolf. The neck plays great. I LOVE the thinner C profile, and the smaller frets are super fun to play. I had doubts about the frets because they are so tiny, but in all honesty the frets are so worn on my favorite wolf, it was like picking up an old friend. The neck is slick(maybe the quartersawn maple), but feels worn in and ready to rock. I got a beautiful piece of birdseye maple for the fretboard and the compound radius feels great especially in the higher registers. The action is set pretty low but loose so it isn't uncomfortable to play. The EVH Floyd is an OFR with Eddie's name on it and is a HUGE upgrade over the Peavey floyd.

Finish - Mine is immaculate. Nothing wrong with this guitar. The binding looks great, everything is working out of the box. The action is set great, no fine tuning or anything ready for the gig.

Quality - I'm actually a fan of the quartersawn maple. I like the feel of it and the fretboard I got is gorgeous, its got more birdseye than any of the wolfs fret boards. Does not feel like a cheap guitar as some have said, feels like a solid built guitar that it ready for whatever you throw at it.

Sound - acoustically, it's not super impressive. However, plugged in...monster. I tested it through a 5150 III with matching cab, a Slawn Quickrod all three gears and 2 different splawn 2x12's and it smokes. Compared with a Peavey Wolf, its a little brighter, however, I get the feeling this guitar is going to cut through a mix a little better. On the clean channels and even the blue on the 5150, this guitar has such a unique and clear voice its fantastic. This might be my favorite position to put the guitar in. The neck pickup is very clear, sounds similar to the PV but more articulate especially with chords and does not sag like the PV. Bridge wise - EVH still knows his tone. These pickups sound a little clearer and not as powerful as the PV's which isn't a turnoff for me.

Overall - this was a well spent pile of tax return money. Would I love to snag the black or tobacco burst...heck yeah. Finances allowing the wife said I can the guitar a sister sometime in January...

I'm pretty sure the guitar has seen more clean/slight dirt than all out gain at tthis point. The guitar just sounds amazing clean and slightly dirty...

I haven't seen one in person, just pictures. To be honest, I don't know too much about the Peavey's or the EB's. A long time ago I tried to play an Ernie Ball, for some reason, I remember it having a v-shape to the neck and didn't like the feel too much. Am I thinking of the right guitar? I know I tried an Eric Clapton signature Stratocaster and didn't like it for the same reason. I'd like to play one of the Fenders after your review, because I really like my Charvel quartersawn thin c as well. It seems the Charvel has a bad rap with some of you guys, I love mine.

You have to post some pics of it when you get a chance. I am glad you like it. I was looking at these on ebay and it looks like the prices are dropping a little bit. I also read somewhere else that you can save $200 more if you use live.com to find it and purchase a guitar with the buy-it-now option.

Agreed on the great review! (and the balls to write one) but I,m NOT suprised on the lack of reviews "Especially" on this site. Iv'e never seen a more negitive responce for a guitar that 99% of the people that bashed it never even PLAYED one, but only here on the Links...............

I think most people were mocking the sales pitch, I know I did. I am glad to hear people like them. I don't think anyone should be afraid to review the guitar.

The EBMM neck doesn't have any sort of "V" shape ...
Maybe you're thinking of another guitar?

As for the Charvel Art Series ...
As I stated before, there are some nice ones out there.
My problem is not with the guitar, but with the product line, in general, for their inconsistancies.
If you got a good one, hang on to it!

i have 2 of these, they both played horrible out of the box. one hasnt been touched, the other one was sent to my local luthier for a fret level, and setup after a few days. it came back playing awsome. as far as the finish goes, its red/white/black one and you can faintly see some black stripes under the red which i find a little odd.
