Default If Van Halen NEVER Make New Music, Will Chickenfoot Fill The Void?

If Van Halen just never get it together to make a new album, will Chickenfoot fill the void for the most part. People have been saying they sound like Van Halen on some of the songs and if you are looking for a real rock outlet - will Chickenfoot do it or will you just move on to something else.

I know some people don't like Sammy Hagar, so I guess that is the deciding factor for a lot of people. I guess Sammy won't be able to win those Dave fans over if it's Chickenfoot or nothing.

Well, even the die hard Roth fans will agree with this.....

Chickenfoot has nothing to do with Van Halen.

I'm sure they'll have more to add, so......enjoy.

Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony were part of Van Halen. Not to mention, the sound of Chickenfoot will be very familiar to Van Halen fans. So you are wrong there. Instead of those backing vocals on a Van Halen album - you are gonna hear them on a Chickenfoot album.

I like it for what it is but it won't fill the void for me. Though actually for me there really isn't too much of a void. I was lucky enough to become interested at the right time so I was able to see both tours a combined 5 times so I'm not exactly yearning for them to do anything. I'd like to see them do something but if they don't, I'm able to accept it with the fact that I saw Dave and Ed on stage and was able to see them with Mike in '04 too, so it's been good.

They're really good, but no, they wouldn't fill the VH Void.

So let's hope for a new VH CD soon...

No, they actually sound completely different than Van Halen. Comparing them is a fool's errand. Yes, Mike and Sam sound like Mike and Sam. But the tone, vibe, and sound of Chickenfoot is decidedly different than Van Halen.

And that's a good thing. They shouldn't sound like Van Halen, they don't wanna sound like Van Halen, 'cause they're not Van Halen.

Maybe folks like yourself have trouble differentiating Van Hagar, Sammy solo, the Wabos, and Chickenfoot. Me, my ears hear it all different, even solo record to record. Different musicians and mixes don't sound the same to me just because there's prior history from said musicians in other outfits.

I didn't say that they sound like Van Halen copycats - but if you can't hear ANY Van Hagar (to clarify) in Chickenfoot, I think you may be in the denial stage.

If I can be serious for a second...

And although I have no interest for chickenfoot...

I'm glad that Michael Anthony is happy...

He got a bad deal from EVH.

I also wish DLR would put out as many albums as Sammy...

So whatever... If chickenfoot fills the void... then so be it...

But I'm gonna continue to wait for the next VH album.

And if there isn't another VH album...

I'm happy with the 6 pack... and all of Roth's solo albums.

    That about sums it up.

It won't fill any Van Halen void at all. It's a new band, new sound. Sammy solo didn't fill any void, so why would this be any different?

The only thing that can fill the Van Halen void is VAN HALEN, and I'm not holding my breath on that one. And for me, the sad part is, it's come to the point where I don't care all that much.

And I think you may be doing what most laymen want to do...compare the two bands.

Try taking off the VH rosy glasses and seeing it for what it is, as opposed to what you think it must be.

For some, Chickenfoot "sounding like VH" could be as simple as Sammy and Mikey's vocals.

I'm a die hard CVH fan, but until the boys get a new album out (if they do) I will continue to enjoy some Chickenfoot.

Still tho....Dave had to try and replace Eddie with Via and Sam's goin with Satch. You don't try and follow the same formula by going with a mediocre guitarist. I have my theories about Chickenfoot, but we won't get into that! =)

I recall several years ago at a party, a friend wanted to debate me on why Van Halen with Sammy Hagar wasn't really Van Halen. He said: "With Sammy they just sounded like Sammy's solo stuff and not Van Halen anymore." To date I can't make any sense out of that comment. Yes, with Sammy writing melodies they became more, well, melodic; and the lyrics changed from Dave's irony-pun-fun-scat thing to more straight-forward rock and beach themes. But the undeniable Ed sound was still there (albeit a reinvention of his sound--again--as he typically did from album to album)... and the undeniable Al drumming was there... and the undeniable Mike backing vocals were there (more than ever)... Additionally, Sammy wrote and thus sang differently with Van Halen--most likely because he was more so reacting to the riffs Ed was writing instead of coming up with them himself.

Can people really not make these distinctions?

eddie van halen is an asshole...its because of him that we have to have these conversations about "filling the void". look at EVERY SINGLE video of chickenfoot and look how HAPPY those guys are together. Ed hasnt looked that way since 1991. you may now return to your thread...
