    Default Building a new axe...

A dear friend of mine died ten years ago this next month, and he was the guitar player in the last band I was in before my hiatus from music. We were in contact nearly the entire time I was done with music. Anywho, he had this G'd awful pink Strat from the '80s that had everything done to it imagineable.

The story was that he was dating a stripper during around the last years he was playing. She was a piece of work, for certain. She should not have been a jealous sort of girl, but she was. It made no difference to her that she showed many a man her (not-so-) private parts four nights a week for money- he was to not even be so much as look at by another bird...

This Strat was already in poor condition before this bird got a hold of it- it had beyond bad belt-buckle rash. It was very, very ugly on the back. He also was very, very hard on his equipment.

The stripper in question had decided to torch my mate's stage clothes AND his guitar before she moved out. She emptied his best bottle of Bacardi 151 on his beloved axe and lit it and his stage costumes on FIRE!!!

His guitar survived the initial fire quite admirably; however, this bloke decides to torch his guitar during every show!!! He even joked about it with this quote written on the treble side: "Who caught my axe on fire?"...

On the Bass side of the guitar, he wrote in black nail polish: "NEVER TRUST STRIPPERS!!!"

His mum still has this guitar to this day as a momento to her son. He died at the ripe old age of 28. I always wanted to know what happened to this fabled axe, so a call to my mate's mum ensued. With my mate's mum's approval, I tried in the best way to replicate this tired, battle-tested axe.

I will be posting pics very soon.
Dammit!!! I still smell like cotton candy!!!

Minwax Wipe On Poly finish (use the satin version and it won't look new). I always use that when I need to seal beat up wood or burns on guitars and necks. I've even used it to blend over between painted and chipped off surfaces.
