Default daughter needs help on EVH school project.

She's basically doing a report on EVH, and the kids aren't allowed to use Wikpedia. Just a couple of basic questions--if anyone can help it would be appreciated.

What form of transportation did he use to come to America?

Any family left back home that he was close to?

What did his parents do before they left?

The main reason for leaving, and why they chose America.

I think I know most of the answers, but I better be sure. Any other tidbits would be appreciated, especially in regards to the immigration part it. Thanks for any help!

The four of them cruised by boat . Ed was 8 I believe and played piano for some of the passengers. Al was probly 9

Jan Van Halen played clarinet professionally and was very famous in the Netherlands. I think Eugina was a domestic engineer.

The choice to reside i the L.A. area points to pops entertainment career as the likely reason for the move.

There was a pic posted sometime back showing the family on the boat coming to the USA.

They chose America for its opportunities. They had relatives here in the U.S. who kept telling them that they needed to move here.

BTW, Jan, upon arrival here, decided to change (or "Americanize") their last name by changing it's proper spelling from "van Halen" to "Van Halen". (making the "V" capitalized).

I know they had relatives in California who kept telling them about the orange trees. Something about you can take the oranges and eat them right off the trees. I also know they came from a town called Nijmegen in the Netherlands.

A terrific reference for all things VH is the Van Halen Encyclopedia. It was recently made available for free pdf download at this link: http://www.lulu.com/items/volume_64/...nd_Edition.pdf

Make sure your pfd settings are up to date. It scrolls quite well, and is bountiful in it's spread of information.
