    Drive in theatres

I mentioned drive ins in the Star Trek thread and thought it would be best to have its own thread. Here is a list (not sure how current) of surviving drive ins in the US if anyone is interested.

I have lots of memories of drive ins from my youth. My most favorite memory, which still gives me goosebumps, was watching "Star Wars" for the very first time, outdoors on the big screen. Yeah yeah yeah, but it was almost like a religious experience seeing that movie like that.

The drive in that was in the movie The Outsiders is still open here in Tulsa. The Admiral Twin. Cool place to watch a movie during the lazy day's of summer.

We have one about a half hour from my house that I'm going to take the kids to this summer.

I don't remember any movies I saw there when I was in high school. I was too busy getting play on the bean bag in the back of the truck.

I too got to see SW for the first time in this long forgotten format. It was at the Highway 39 Drive-in on Beach Blvd and the 22 fwy.

Got to see many many films there in my youth, including a Cheech and Chong triple feature one night with my Uncle John.

It was torn down to make way for Wal-Mart.

Same goes for my childhood drive-in.

The one I went to as a teen in Lake Worth is still there, and the Mrs and I used to take the kids there as well....saw Toy Story for the first time there. No drive-ins are still open anywhere close to us here though.

For those of you looking for active drive ins, this site stays fairly current on things.

we're were talking about this not too long ago. They're making a comeback. I understand now they use RF to get the audio to play through your car speakers and they have better food and such. I wonder though...and this just popped into my head...with so many cars having permanent running headlights, does that effect the screen at all? My car has lights on all the time...if the key is turned, the lights are on. Seems like a hundred cars like this would wash the image out.
    Stay out of it, dude.

Broke, you may want to look at your light switch, I know I can manually turn off the lights once they automatically pop on by a quick turn of the switch.

really? I can't find that switch at anywhere...they turn on by themselves...if it's day time they are somewhat dim but on. Then at night, they really turn on. Then I have a toggle that doesn't seem to do anything. Then a switch for the fog lamps and then a toggle for the high beams...bastards never gave me a manual when I bought the car so for all I know this thing could ejector seats and I wouldn't know how to use them!

Most models have some sort of manual control, on my '03 Silverado, it looks similar to this.

"Off" = The lights will come on when dark automatically.
One click clockwise = Parking lights
    Another click clockwise = Headlights
A "twist" counter-clockwise = Lights will go off even though it's dark

If you give me the year/make/model of the vehicle in question, I'll look to see what I can't dig up for you.

They had a drive in near my house back in the late 70's early 80's. They had one screen that you could see from the highway driving by, and one facing the other direction. It closed for a while then re-opened and started showing porno's, i'm sure you can guess which screen they showed those on. Damnit. ha

theres a drive in about 15 minutes from where I live. Im surprised that it hasnt been torn down yet but every summer, i still see people go there which is nice.

I can actually remember my very first drive in experience. And it was a weird one too.

So my parents took me and my sister to see independence day and twister at the drive in. Independence day was just starting and i looked up and I saw just a HUGE meteor shower overhead. ID4 gets over with and twister is about to start and all of the sudden, the wind picks up from outta nowhere and starts blowing shit all over the place.

Talk about freaky. Almost omen like.

Anyways, im hoping to catch at least 1 movie at the drive in this summer.

BOISE STATE BRONCOS! - They're awesome. Deal with it!

11/16/04 - VAN HALEN in Boise, Idaho. Changed my life forever

8/8/06 - Sammy Hagar and the Wabos w/Michael Anthony in Boise, Idaho. Sam and Mike still kick ass
