Default Best Ear Plugs For Concerts?

I know there was a long thread about this during the Van Halen tour, but of course I can't find it. What are the best brands/types of ear plugs for use while watching a concert? I'd be most interested in learning about ear plugs for club and theatre gigs. Thanks so much for any information.

These are the one's I use. They work very nicely. Unlike the foam ones that muffle everything, these just bring down the decibel level and even some of the distortion from overly loud music.

I wore a set of Vater plugs when I saw Van Halen in New Jersey in 2007, and the Police at Madison Square Garden the night before. They worked a treat, not only saving me from a week of ringing ears, but also cleaning up the sound. VH were stupidly loud, to the point of it being a wall of distortion, but the Vater pluts made it quite listenable.

I prefer anything that doesn't actually plug the ears. I can't find a link to the ones I used when I was a drummer...I used to buy them at Guitar Center. They had a little metal cylinder inside a rubber plug. They were awesome. comfortable to wear, lightweight, and didn't plug anything. I could have normal conversations with them on and not need to shout or lean in to hear. Then when the music kicked in, they erased all those nasty distorted frequencies and kept me from having the ear ringing thing.

I've been meaning to buy another pair for a while now.
    Stay out of it, dude.

Yup. Vaters kick ass. I wear them with my band and at concerts and they're the only plugs I've found that I can wear and still hear everything going on.

Actually, no. Everyone should protect their hearing at every age. Otherwise, you'll be fucked when you get old. When I saw the Foo Fighters last year, I noticed Dave Grohl's daughter crawling around on the side of the stage during the show and thought "is he insane???". Then I noticed the giant pair of bright red, shooting range ear muffs attached to her head...

I know, just messing with you. I just dont wear them at concerts, though there's been some indoor venues i wished i had them. Outdoor pavilions arent too bad.

Depends on the venue and the sound company. VH definitely was overkill on the '07/'08 tour, as my ears hadn't been that bad in over 8 years from a show. Def Leppard last year was a close second. On the other hand, the Eagles last year was acceptably loud, without splitting your eardrums.

Hm, i dont recall VH being too bad last time. Thought the one before w/ sam was loud, but i was around the 10th row though. I think it was the FUCK tour that was just off the hook loud, played inside, so loud it didnt even sound good. Probably my least favorite vh show.
