Default The "Are we old yet?" Thread

One of the things I think about alot lately is. "Am I old?" At 43, it sounds ancient to a ten year old. My son knows I'm not old, but when I say my age he gives me that look of,... What? To me, of course not, I'm only 43. When do you cross that bridge to not, senior citizen, but, older. I use to have alot of women look my way though the years. Now I seem to think they're about ready to open doors for me. I don't think I look old mind you. Some people cross eyes when I tell them my age. The thing that gets me is I just can't keep up so much any more. My son throws me a baseball, "I'll let that one go". I do that alot more now. At this age you tend to say that alot. But I don't feel like I should. I'm not totaly out of shape mind you. (I could take off 20 pounds). I'm slower than I was two years ago. I was(am) a great dancer. It was one of the things that drew my wife to me 15 years ago. Who wants to see a 43 old dance. Besides my wife. Politics, my god are you kidding me. I still don't get why we fight about it. Is that why I'm inmature for my age to some people. I decided to write this thread basicly because of the closing of the, Has Obama done enough or whatever thread. I read what Brett and a couple other wrote and thought. I'm not ready to be that into one party yet. Does that make me under mature. Or does this mean I've become just middle age and forcing my youth to stick around. Am I reaching for something that isn't there. I don't what anything I don't need. I don't want an affair. I don't fear my son is going to be able to kick my ass in a few years. When is "OLD"? You may feel it. But when is it?

Well, I'm 45 and I still like to play good music loud in the car (and any other opportunity) - kids don't seem to like it, which is kind of backward if you ask me ("If it's too loud, you're too fucking young!"). On the other hand, I can't relate to today's younger generation at all. Sitting for hours in front of video games, actually wanting to carry a phone around with them, being force-fed shit music by the radio, having friends that have probably never heard the word "no" in their life, not knowing the joy of spending a buck and getting 5 or 6 packs of baseball cards, etc.

You're as old as you feel, dude.

Someone asked John Stockman (NBA Great) when he turned 40, how he "felt". He said he felt one day older than he did the day before. Hell, lots of people never make it to 40, look at it that way. If that makes you feel better.

I started feeling old the moment I said "I remember 'insert whatever 80's reference' from 20 years ago..." Very weird feeling. But then again I'm 27 and still young.

I used to feel old when making references to obscure South Florida places because no one else seemed to remember them. After joining the Links, I've run into a few folks, chef in particular, that actually remember these places as well. Makes me feel somewhat younger when others remember stuff like that as well.

    Amen to that. ^

And $20 used t/b a lot to me back in the day.

In my mind I'm still 20 and I still like to crank the tuneage and tip a few. My kids don't get that but maybe that's for the best.

I am 42, will be 43 this Sept. I have 2 boys, ages 9 and 6. Love them both, but they fight all the time and it's making me crazy. Been married 13 years this year. I will tell you, I am having one hell of a time coping with life these days. The mid-life crisis is hittin me hard! I work all the time, my wife works all the time, she's older than me and is out of shape, the kids are stuffed to the gills with homework, etc... We barely connect anymore, and sometimes that's just fine with me. We have lots to be thankful for but I feel like I never have any time for myself anymore, and when I do, I squander it away by laying around on my ass sleeping or just doing nothing.

Physically, I still have all of my hair, am in just OK shape, not fat but not cut or thin, and women still flirt with me from time to time, but mostly ones my age or near. No young college age chicks flirt with me, and now that I am in my 40's I must seem ancient to them. I probably seem ancient to my sons. I remember what I thought of people in their 30's and 40's when I was a kid, and that was "man, you're fuckin' old!"

I want my fuckin' free wheelin' youth back!

I have felt like I was 17, since I was 17. It's wierd. When I am around people even just a little older than me (I am 39), I feel I like I am a 17 year old kid in their midst.

I guess I will grow older, but I refuse to grow up.

I guess I will grow older, but I refuse to grow up.

That thing about being around other "older" people made me laugh out loud, because that is EXACTLY the feeling I get, and I have only recently realised it.

I was chatting to an attractive colleague recently. I felt like I was a kid talking to a woman. She is six years my junior. Granted, at 41 I could probably get away with being thought to be 30 at times, lucky genes I guess, but there is a serious deficiency in my thinking somewhere because this is an ongoing thing.

I'm still a teenager. I just happen to hate most teenagers.
