Default Arlen Specter (R-PA) switches parties to D-PA

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090428/...specter_switch

With Franken, they would have a 60-vote majority. Now those pinko liberals can pass through all those pinko policies with ease - like communism and turbin tuesday.

..just joking around.. big news tho!

It is the only way he would win an election for I think his 6th term. Just add him to the list of back stabbing liberals ruining our country.

Just as well he never voted as a conservative, but he always took the money from the RNC. Bush came to PA his last election and bailed him out of a tight primary race and he turned out to be a phiscal liberal too.

I was watching the "news" on MSNBC at lunch and saw the liberal commentators on that network creaming themselves at the very idea of Democrats having full control.

As someone else already stated, he did this for his own well-being to survive the upcoming Senate race. Had he done this two years into his term, I may actually have respected him for it. But being this is year five and he smells the shift in his own state, he is nothing more than opportunistic politician out to save his own skin.

To act like he is suddenly repulsed by the Republican party is just pathetic and transparent.

Actually, my first thought was that it came as no big surprise. Although a supposed Republican, he has not really been a friend to the right.

Arlen, don't let the screen door hit you on the way out, you prick!

If you look at his voting record, he's always been pretty middle of the road. I think he's realized that his party is failing and only the fringe remain. Of course he switched to win in 2010, because he knows the majority of America has rejected the R's brand of fear, hatred, and greed. The R party is much different than it was in 1980 when he first ran for Senate.

When asked for comment, Republican congress members said "Arlen Spector? he was a Republican? well I'll be darned!"

just kidding, but that about sums it up.

This is what has passed for leadership is Washington DC. This is why the country is in the shape it is today.

As a democrat, I see nothing to celebrate here.

Just a tired old man who puts himself and his power above principle and the country.

No, he realized that he wouldn't get elected in his own state if he didn't change. It has nothing to do with national polls. If he knew he could get elected, there's no switch. He never followed the party line anyway. It's really just a spineless move that is getting the far left in a tizzy because now they feel like the Republican party is breathing it's last breath.

Unfortunately for them, that's the last thing they need. Democrats were basically the "party of no" long before Republicans (see 2000-2008) and both parties need each other to be the enemy. Now, when things still suck in 2,4,8 years down the line, they will have no one to point to and scream "It's THEIR fault!!" because they have absolute power of America now.
