    Default The Knockoff Gear Thread

Hey I was thinking it might be useful to have a thread (this one) where people post their opinions on gear that is not specifically endorsed by EVH but is sort of "inspired" by things that he helped design. I've never owned any of the EVH stuff or any of the knockoff stuff but I think it would be cool to know what is out there. For example, I'd like to get an EVH designed amp someday, but since I can't afford a 5150 maybe I could learn here of something available that is similar but less expensive. Maybe people can put up what the piece of gear is, roughly how much it costs, and your opinion on how you like it and how you think it compares to the real deal...

    For example:

The Peavey 6505 amp (a knockoff of the 5150)

The OLP guitars that look just like Ed's original Ernie Ball Music Man guitar.

I'm sure there are at least a few other examples too.
Any musicians near Boston / Cape Cod want to get together and play some VH? I play drums, guitar, keyboard, bass, and I sing. I want to start a VH tribute band. Contact me if interested.

The 6505's aren't really a knock off of the old 5150's, they're exactly the same as them, built by the same company, just with a different name and slightly different cosmetics. A knock off of the 5150/6505 series would be the Bugera 6260 & 6262. Bugera also makes a knock off of the XXX.

Problem is, there are alot of folks buying these guitars, representing them as the "real deal" and selling them on eBay. And that's not just limited to high end companies like Gibson, Fender, and PRS either ... fake Epiphones are rampant on eBay too, and IMO this is even more scary as less folks are likely to question thier authenticity.

Also note that those guitars on the website are sold in quantities of 6 or more, so they're obviously targeting distribution.
