    Default Wiring Question

Guys I have looked at a bunch of schematics, I guess my real question is regarding a 3-way Strat switch I have, and I have never wired one of those before. A regular toggle is easier for me.

Basically I want to wire two humbuckers, with 2 volumes with a Strat-style 3-way switch.

Does anyone know anywhere I can actually get that schematic? I see plenty for the toggle 3-way, but not the Strat-style one.

I don't know of the schematic, but here....

As always, ground the pickup's ground lead and solder the two middle leads together...

If the pot's lugs are facing up, with the knob facing up...

For each pickup and pot...Attach the leftmost lug to ground. Middle lug goes to the 3-way switch for the respective pickup. Right lug gets the pickup's hot lead.

Attach the hot wires to the 3-way switch just like this. Then instead of the volume pot as in the switch, just take that lead to your output jack and you're done!

I love guitar wiring and stuff. The two Strat's I've put together have some real cool wiring features. Any questions, let me know!

    By the way...

I highly recommend using a Fender or Dimarzio Super 5 way switch. They look pretty scary at first, but the options are endless when it comes to that.

Dimarzio has a wiring diagram on their site for 2 HB and the super 5 way. Your switching features are....

Bridge, Inside coils of both buckers, both buckers in parallel, outside coils of both, and Neck.

Really diverse pickup combos. That's just part of one of my strat's wiring. The one with that also has a 3-way rotary for wiring the neck pickup in Series, split, or parallel. By splitting the neck and selecting the inside coils, I get just one coil of the bridge pickup too. There's a master volume, that 3-way, and a neck pickup only volume, to have the neck set a little lower volume for cleaner stuff ala the HFT switch, but still have master volume closest to my hand. A strategically placed resistor brings the neck pickup back to sounding like it's only seeing the load of one volume pot instead of both.

Jedi, thanks that's exactly what I needed!

I guess my last question is, will the middle setting on the selector do anything?

Yes, the middle will be both pickups in parallel.

You can have the middle position be a "kill" position by only soldering each pickup lead to the outermost lug of the switch, instead of bridging it across two on each side.
