    Default Your favorite Tone....EVH excluded...

Ok, was discussing this with a friend last night, so tough this could make an insteresting thread. While listening to some 80's metal, we started to talk wich tone we like best.

SO let's talk tone...BUT, let's exclude Eddie,s brown sound for this one. might get a bit more interesting.. U don't need to stick to ONE player, many can be listed basicaly.

Me..i'm an 80's metal head, so, most of my tone preference are from that era, but in no particular order.

Dave Murray (Iron Maiden) in the POWER SLAVE album

Randy Rhoads ( Ozzy ) on the Diary of a Madman album.

Warren DeMartini (ratt) first 2 albums. Only LA sound i got into.

Glenn Tipton. ( Judas Priest ) Screaming for Vengeance.

I loved that loud, bottom style comming from a JCM800 crancked with a OD in it.....that's what i still play now, but in a 15w package..hehe. but it still gives me shrils to play those songs.

second verse, same as the verse!

beatles had sick sick guitar tone especially Rubber Soul and Revolver...and I just don't mean electric. They got fantastic acoustic tone as well.

Beach Boys had some fantastic guitar tone too, I love their echoey reverb...really cuts through the mix.

Mick Mars period. The guy has sick tone.

Nuno Bettencourt, particularly on his Schizophonic, Mourning Widows, Pop 1 and Dramagods work. Man, that guy is nasty.

I'm also a big fan of the tone he got on Waiting for the Punchline and Saudage de Rock.
    Stay out of it, dude.

I'm a big fan of DiMartini's tone in Ratt for Lay it down...that tone was killer

I also love the tone of Eric Johnson...not a big fan of his music but his tone is to die for.

    Warren Haynes has sick tone!

Clapton's tone in the eary days was amazing..(especially on Beano and Dereck and the dominos).

I love Gary Moore's tone on Still got the blues album

And, Randy Rhoads on Blizzard of Oz...kinda shrilly but just so perfect for that album.

I love Iommi's current tone, it is so heavy.

Funny how some people like Randy Rhoads' tone as I really don't like it at all.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

i'm not familiar with iommi's current tone but I love the sound of the first sabbath album.

As for Rhoads...well, the fact that he could play is undeniable. I never cared for his guitar tone...ever. It actually acts as a deterrent to me listening to him.

here's a couple more tone monsters:

Gilmour and Allman. Those guys had amazing tone...obviously gilmour still does.
    Stay out of it, dude.

You know I waffle back and forth on Randy Rhoads tone. It depends on my mood really. Some days I just think his tone is shit...others it just seems to work with the music so well.

However, my favorite of his tone was his live tone on one video where is playing some small TV show with Ozzy and his Marshall is cleary cranked up.

    ZZ Top all the way

Never cared for the shredders at all. I like Vai's playing but not so much his tone. Same with Gilbert, love his playing but his tone grates on my ears.
