Damn, hadn't seen this thread yet! Devin is one of my all-time favorites. He blew me away when I first heard him with Vai, and the first two Strapping Young Lad albums floored me. I lost track of him for a while, but I have spent the last few years catching up on the rest of SYL, and all the solo stuff. The guy is just awesome.

He's currently on his first headlining tour in North America. I have not been to any of the shows, but I've seen some of the stuff on youtube, and it looks like a great time.

Still one of the best voices in rock/metal, ever.

    And man, can he play:

Devin Townsend just finished mixing the entire 'Ziltoid' album for the Rock Band Network. Should be downloadable by Christmas!

he's a strange dude...lol. I like his voice alot especially on the Vai album, his performance on Dirty Black Hole alone is epic.

I've seen stuff by him on youtube and he's just a wierd dude, he might be a genius....I dunno sometimes it's hard to find the line that seperates the two.

Devin has definitely had his "issues." He's bipolar, and for years self-medicated himself with drugs and alcohol. Wasn't a great combination.

He was banned for life from the Tonight Show back when he was in Vai's band for shoving Jay Leno's phone up his ass. lol

He was told that after the Vai album, Relativity Records would put out his solo stuff. After the Vai thing was done, Relativity dropped him. He became an extremely angry young man, and the band Strapping Young Lad was born with this, probably the angriest song I've ever heard:

He's clean and sober now, and a lot less angry. lol

That is awesome! I still have never seen him live. I live about 4 hours away from where that "Kingdom" clip I posted was filmed, but was unable to go at the time.

This guy is from another planet. I remember being blown away by his voice on Sex and Religion. I didn't know he played that well. Holy shit. He scares me and hurts my head at the same time. lol Genious obviously. Anyone know if he had a falling out with Vai or anything? To me after hearing a bunch of youtube clips, he has the technicality to knock Steve out. I'm wondering if there was any of that in play.

Yeah, that's a bonus track from the Japanese version of the Vai album.

I believe the track is also on Steve Vai's Mystery Tracks, Vol 3. I think that is still available from Vai's website.

Devin isn't as popular here in the states as he is in your part of the world. Though his recent US tour did pretty well, I hear. I think 2011 is going to be a big year for Dev. He has new management, has the two DTP albums coming out next year (and a box set of the DTP stuff), plus the Peavey guitar should be out next year, too.

Good things to come! I can't wait!
