Default March Rock Madness WYSP Philadelphia

Did a quick search & couldn't find anything for "WYSP" so here goes...

I know a lot of the rock stations across the country run this same promotion during the NCAA tourney, but from my experience Van Halen usually bumps into U2, Metallica, AC/CD or someone like that in before the Sweet 16 & takes an early ouster. Well, a buddy of mine was just travelling the southern end of the Jersey Turnpike & picked up WYSP out of Philadelphia & heard that this year's March Rock Madness Champions are none other than the mighty VH.

Certainly it's not a big deal, but little things like this always tickle me. I thought I would share.

Van Halen beat out Guns 'N Roses in the final?

    That's ironic.

Nice. About time they've won something on that worthless station. Ha.

SWEET! I live in the Philly area and didn't even know about this but really haven't been listening to the radio much lately. Anyways thats cool. This area (I'm sure like many others) is diverse but VH is beloved here. Back in the day and even the reunion show in 07 people in this area LOVE Van Halen! Cool pic. Man takes me back to being a teenager and seeing most of the classic VH tours. Missed out on VH1 and 2 but saw all the rest, multiple times.

Philly has loved VH since WAY BACK! Thats one reason I'm such a CVH/ DLR era fan. In my formative young years (in life and guitar playing)they were the kings. By the time Sam came along I was becoming an adult and his flavor in VH took a long time to adjust too, not liking his solo music/image and all but digging Montrose....it was cool but not the "good stuff/dlr" imo CVH is VH.
Many of you are younger and have the opposite experience and I think that explains a lot.

Sorry to make this about me and all that.(please let's not argue we all have different opinions/perspectives) lol It's ALL good. That pic and Philly news made me sentimental is all. Lived here my whole life. Glad Philly honored VH in this way!

Couldn't agree with you more. I feel the same way. My first show on the last tour was the 10/3/07 show in Philly. Best show of the four I went to.

Let's not forget, the mayor declared May 24 Van Halen Day in Philadelphia
"Look, I'll pay you for it, what the f**k?!"

"If I don't make her happy in the bedroom the wife gets bitchy for days at a time, but when I come to bed ready for action she laughs and laughs. She even laughs while I make my moves so I know I must be pleasing her as only I can do."

I think the members of VH also have a soft spot for Philly. When I saw them at the Spectrum on the Diver Down tour (two nights in a row!), I recall Dave thanking Philly for sticking with the band when times were tough (or something to that effect). I remember thinking it was odd since I wasn't sure when "times were tough" for the band after VH1 came out. I guess at the time that Fair Warning was released it wasn't that critically acclaimed and the Philly crowds always stood up for VH. And let's not forget that the crazy swinging upside down sequences in Panama were filmed at the Spectrum in Philly.

Default VH at Peaches in Northeast Philly

Does anyone remember back when VH1 came out that the band appeared at a record store in Northeast Philly called Peaches? While they were there they put their hands in some cement outside and wrote their names next to their prints. It was there for years until they knocked Peaches down to build soemthing else. I'll bet somebody somewhere has that piece of cement. I wish I had been there when VH made their appearance. I didn't know about it until after the fact. Does anyone else remember this?

Peaches was huge back in the day, and many locations had done the concrete deal.
