I like Government Mule, but I have never really thought of Haynes in those lofty terms.

Maybe I'm not hearing something. Not meant as a slight to the guy, but I think there are better players out there.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

    Preferred pronouns: he/him/his

Hurricane Halen - Let's all gingery touch our sword tips!!!

Why do they even bother doing this each year? It's fucking pointless.

At the very least they should call it "most popular", as it's based on a reader poll.

    I agree.

I've always been of the opinion that these things should be titled "most popular" or "guitarist of the year" or something like that but calling them "greatest" or "best" is pretty silly and unnecessarily boastful...annoyingly so.

Great for Warren...WELL DESERVED. I've seen him in person and am very familiar with his abilities. He looks up at NO ONE.

SO REFRESHING to see an honor go to someone other than the standard fall-back choices. Awesome.

Yeah, he's only played for The Allman Bro's and The Grateful Dead and front's his own band...and he sucks.

Maybe you have shitty taste? Maybe you are tone deaf? Maybe you don't know jack shit about who is a talented guitar player versus some kid playing Guitar Hero?

Regardless, maybe I will end my rant.

Warren Haynes is a killer guitarist who can play circles around most of us in here..

And the thing about Warren is he's far, far more than just an amazing guitar player. He's an incredible vocalist, songwriter, arranger, producer and band leader.

Oh, and he's probably one of the most diverse players on the planet. He can not only play jazz, rock, country, etc. licks very well; but write all of it too.
Not to mention he's a very nice, down to earth guy who really appreciates the fans who've allowed him to play music for a living.

And prolific. This year alone he'll be playing with the ABB, The Dead, he just recorded a new Gov't Mule Album with a tour to begin after The Dead reunion, and has a solo acoustic album set for release this year. He truly is the hardest working musician on the planet.

I'm not knocking anyones taste. To each their own, but Warren is an incredible guitarist. I've seen him live with ABB, The Mule, and when he sat in with Big Sugar. He's by far gotta be one of the best slide players around today. If you really want to hear a wicked solo check out An Evening With the Allman Brothers band 2nd. set. The second tracks slide solo (You Don't love Me) kicks fuckin' ass. He may not be your cup o' tea....but he doesn't suck.
She looks so $#@!'n good ,so sexy and so frail....Somethin's got the bite on me, I'm goin' straight to Hell.

Apparently you haven't seen the ABB live before or know much of their extensive catalog. If your only reference are the overly played radio "hits" your missing most of what makes the ABB special. You may not dig them, which is fine. But to say they're cliches of themselves is just ignorance or little knowledge of them to begin with.

I guess that's why the following musicians have jammed with them in the past two weeks alone, because they're a glorified bar band:

Eric Clapton, Jimmy Herring, Sonny Landreth, Sheryl Crow, John Hammond, John Popper, Taj Mahal, Susan Tedeschi, South Side Johnny and the Ashbury Jukes, Billy Gibbons, Levon Helm, Buddy Guy, Johnny Winter, Los Lobos, Larry Cambell, Bruce Hornsby, Lesley West......

I'm betting the above names know a bit or two about skilled musicians when they hear them. But again, your mileage may vary, and that's fine too.

Again, the "guitarist' moniker is but one facet of his musicianship. Just as his slide work is but one facet of his guitar skills.
