Default Hey Jimmy Carter, BLOW ME!

Peanut dick is now saying, in a new book, that the Civil War was immoral and unnecessary.

    WTF?

    http://www.nydailynews.com/opinions/...ory_he_th.html

Carter holds up the British - who didn't fight a war over slavery - as an example, but a careful look shows that case to be thoroughly unconvincing. Parliament had acted in 1807 to ban the slave trade and in 1833 to abolish slavery altogether. By the time the Civil War began in 1861, America's legislature had yet to follow suit - and the Southerners didn't appear in any great rush to do so.

How much patience should Lincoln have had with the immoral institution? How many more lashes should have fallen on the backs of American blacks during Carter's hypothetical waiting period for slavery to terminate "peacefully"? The period wouldn't have been particularly peaceful for the slaves. One might as well argue that the bloodshed of the American Revolution could have been avoided, given that British rule was eventually terminated peacefully in Canada.
This motherfucker is why we have a radical Iran, because of a radical Iran we supported Saddam Hussein, because of radical Iran Carter made the free flow of our from the Persian Gulf a vital part of US national security, eventually we had to take out Saddam Hussein because he was also a shitbag, Carter turned the country away from nuclear power which made u s dependant on oil and coal which has polluted the atmosphere and put the United States technologically behind...FRANCE.

Thanks alot, you peanut-fucking cracker. Fidel Castro went to bed every night wondering how he was going to top your brlliant destruction of the United States.

If I were African-American I'd be twice as pissed off. I guess that Sherman should have just killed more people in his march to the sea.

Sorry, this really ruined my day.

Off topic a bit, but I think we have a radical Iran because we toppled Mossadeq in '52/3, because he wouldn't let us steal his oil, and installed our own little vicious dictator for 25 odd years.

It would have pissed me off, anyway.

Carter probably payed his taxes. That would disqualify him.

Mossadeq was just a little too comfortable with the Soviets. So he went bye-bye.

Also, Carter's worthless CIA director had no clue the revolution was coming; hence giving us a chance to either undermine it or make reforms to head it off. The CIA also had no clue that the Revolutionary Guard was going to take the US Embassy until they were standing in the station chief's office.

Aside from that, where the hell does he come off with his take on the Civil War? I mean, I could see if he was a member of the Ku Klux Klan. Their whole reason for existing was that the Civil War was immoral and unjust. Fucking crybabies. Jesus, could you imagine if Bush or Cheany had said this? They'd be in chains on the next plane to the Hague.

    What an ass-clown.

Perhaps i'm reading this wrong, but it seems to me that Carter is merely pointing out that the war could have been avoided if the example of the British had been followed.

And to blame him for Iran is unfair, he might not have helped much, but he didn't start the problem.

Maybe someone should point out to Carter that the Civil War wasn't about slavery to begin with. Slavery became an issue after the war started.

That is correct. Slavery was only an issue when it appeared that Great Britain would fight with the South. When the proclimation was announced, it effectively made the war about slavery and one that the population of GB could not support.

I wonder how Jimmy Carter feels about the American Revolution? Maybe John Adams, Jefferson, Franklin and others should have just kept on trying diplomacy with King George. Who knows if he was a founding father, we may still be a colony.

It's amazing how many facets there are to historical events we learn about in school, i.e. the Civil War and the issue of slavery.

Yeah, and all that would have meant was that black people would have had to suffer a few decades longer. I don't see that as a win.

And yes, slavery was not the driving force behind the Civil War but it was in the top three reasons as to why the south wanted to secede. Either way, there was no way the South was going to break up the union. The new Republican President had been elected to end at least the expansion of slavery with the hope of ending it all together. The South didn't like the outcome of the election and decided to split.

War was a foregone conclusion as far back as the Jackson Administration, Carter has been delusional for years.

I don't know enough about your civil war, so i won't comment further.

I've always thought pretty well of Jimmy Carter though.
