Default Lyrics to Soap on a Rope

Seeing I haven't done this in a while, and I am up way to early for a job interview which I am very excited over to say the least, I figured, what the fuck! So here it is as best is I could figure it out! So for my 1600th post here is:

    SOAP ON A ROPE

    ---
Got money, got fame, fast cars and everything … yah oh!
I want to dance, got to sing, rock soul blues sing anything do ya! Hey hey
I got a woman, she’s fined tuned, let me do anything I that wanna do! Oh!
Got it all, still want more, come on baby, show me what I am looking for! Yeah … yeah

Don’t forget to bring your rocking shoes
Grab your tooth brush, soap and a comb
And you can pick up a little taste get your favorite buzz on
And you can leave the rest at home, whoa! Uh! Yeah! Yeah!

Get your soap up and get your buzz on. Woah

    [Guitar Solo]

On a bus, on a plane, in a car, subterranean freight train. Ah!
I’m in a room, got funk talking hot yeah free punk! Yeah!
The mood is on and I got satellite have mercy, my baby is about to get down!
Got me down on one knee, lord have mercy my baby is about to kill me!

Oh don’t forget to bring your rocking shoes
Grab your tooth brush, soap and a comb
And you can pick up a little taste get your favorite buzz on
And you can leave the rest at home, whoa! Yeah!!

Get it, get it, get it, yeah yeah yeah!!!

    Woaah!
Get your buzz on right here! Get your buzz on right here!
Get your buzz on right here! Yeah come on baby!
    Give it! Give! Watch it!

I like the melody and I like hearing Mike sing harmonies but the lyrics, now that I read them while listening to the track are starting to work against the tune. I like parts of them but others make just think "jeeeez Sam...what were you thinking?!" But overall, like the other song, good song.

Thankyou, you just backed up my opinion of the song.

While I think the words are really dumb...it doesnt really matter when it comes to fun rock.

Just listen to most Def Leppard songs...those lyrics are so stupid...but it works.

I am not a fan of Sammy's lyric writing. But, it works for the song.

That's just it, people are judging the lyrics and they don't even really know, do you know what he was thinking ? He uses a lot of play on words. Always has.

Lyrics have always been a strange thing to me, I may actually care what they say in one song and give a rat's ass on another. In the case of 'foot, I'm willing to let the lyrics slide a bit just because the stuff is sounding pretty good to me thus far.

I'm willing to let it go on both songs, they really rock. However he won't get a pass for writing like this on all 10 or 12 songs.

umm...scott...care to give me your critical analysis of Hagar's use of metaphor or other such aspect of a play on words with the following:

Donít forget to bring your rocking shoes
You grab a tooth brush, soap and a comb
And you can pick up a little taste get your favorite buzz on
And you can leave the rest at home, whoa! Uh! Yeah! Yeah!

Get your soap up and get your buzz on. Woah
Personally, I have no problem with songs like Good Rocking Tonight, Blue Suede Shoes, Bony Maronie, YaYa and other rock songs with simple lyrics. So the the rocking shoes bit doesn't bug me at all. But "tooth brush, soap and a comb?" Really? Seriously? A comb? I need to not forget my comb when I'm running off to party with Sam? Jesus.

Like I said, I like both songs. I like the other one a little more than this overall, but I like this melody a lot and Mike is singing so those are definitely two great tastes that taste great together...but let's not try to spin Hagar as some freaking poet who uses a great deal of plays on words...because he doesn't. He just writes bad lyrics sometimes. That's ok. It doesn't mean I think he should burn in hell for it. I just call 'em like I see 'em.

I am not going to give a critical analysis of the song, You tell me, apparently you know more about the song than me. Seriously, I was not out to analyze it right away. Simply because until he is interviewed about the songs, we don't really know what he is reffering to. The words themselves to you might sound stupid or simple. What is the whole theme of the song ?, who is he singing about literally ! etc....... if you you know tell me......I am not being critical of you I am only asking?

True, he may have a much deeper mystical objective and comb could be a metaphor...could be a phallic symbol, could be a metaphor for the human spirit as a means to put in order the nappy hair of humanity's drudgery...or it could just be a lazy lyric. If it turns out to be a metaphor for something more majestic, then I'll give him that but I will say it's a lazy metaphor.

You, just like I, have nothing but the lyrics to go by. I don't think there's a whole lot to these lyrics and there doesn't have to be. Like I said earlier, there's nothing, absolutely nothing wrong, with writing a happy rock song about getting your dancing shoes, throwing a few drinks back and having a good time. It seems that this is exactly what he's talking about. Let's have a good time, pack light and let's rock. I'm fine with that. I just think he could have spent a few more minutes with it and maybe come up with something a little better...not expecting or wanting some higher plane of existence, just something a little better than "you grab a tooth brush, soap and a comb." a COMB for god's sake. Do people even use combs anymore?!?

When the 'critics' sell 30 million records or whatever number you want to use I'll start listening to them tell Sammy how to write songs. The critics need to get back to work because there are spills on aisls ten and thirteen.
