Default What VH songs could Satch pull off?

I was thinking about the Chickenfoot setlist during the week, and how its going to look.
Its been stated they will do the whole album, so I'm guessing that will be 9 to 11 new songs, plus 9 0r 10 songs from the members back catalogues.
My question is, What VH songs would go over the best, if they did them. What songs would suit Satch?
For one, I reckon "One way to rock" would be fucking incredible, with sammy and satch both playing guitar.
As for VH album-wise, I'd go
    Summer nights
    Black and Blue
    Runaround
What is understood need not be discussed

"Dont disturb my paradise. I've asked you once. I've asked you nice" - "SERIOUS JU JU"

"I am in a blissful state. Dont bug me!!!" - Richard Dreyfuss "The Goodbye girl" 1977

Default Satch can pull off any VH song...

The real question is whether Satch tries to cop EVH's sound and feel.

Vai chose not to in the EEASM days -- causing some (mostly non-guitarists I'd wager) to say that Vai sucked or could not play Eddie's stuff. Not only could Vai have copied Ed's playing note for note (and parroted Ed's tone), Vai had already done perfect transcriptions in musical and tablature notation of Ed's show pieces like Eruption and Spanish Fly. Vai chose to play and sound like Steve Vai and not simply copy Ed, so the songs sounded different when many fans wanted to hear a note for note VH tribute band like the Punks.

As EVH once said when he first heard Satch Boogie: "that dude has some Van Halen in him". I'd prefer hearing Satch play the Roth-era stuff, EVH's innovations and genius tapered off after Fair Warning.

But if its Sammy era, then I'd go for:

    5150
    Summer Nights
    Cabo
    Aftershock
    Amsterdam

I rate those as the best guitar tracks Eddie put out in the Sammy era. Too bad we are likely to get the hits/schmaltz instead.

I don't know...I highly doubt we'll get any keyboard stuff. With all the great songs that could be played, I don't see anyone in the band pulling for WCTBL, When it's love, or God help us, Love Walks In.

    I'd like to see:
    Judgement Day
    5150
    Seventh Seal
    Cabo

Hear About it Later(Mikey on Vox)

Gotta say, Chickenfoot playing Halen tunes seems a little out of place to me. As a fan going to see Chickenfoot I can't say that I'd even want to see a Sam era VH tune. Give me Chickenfoot tunes, Sam solo tunes, and some random covers. There's just something different about this band than Sammy and the Waboritas and I don't think any of them should feel a VH tune is necessary.

VH with Sam ('86-'96) - Incredible era....."We have renamed this town 'New Halen!'.
VH with Gary ('98) - Fucking disaster. WTF was that??
VH with Wolf/Dave ('12-'15) - Amazing comeback. Smokin' album and tours.

First and foremost I'd say none. I don't like to hear Satriani play any Van Hagar tunes. Second If I do recall the band is called ChickenFoot and is fronted by Sammy, then why the hell are they going to play any Roth era tunes??. And Third and last you said that Eddie's genius and innovations tappered off after Fair Warning... What! You have got to be kidding. While I think Edward has slow down his blaze out faster than hell style a bit, I have to say that I've been more than impressed with some of the work he has done over the years. Me Wise Magic and Respect The Wind comes to mind and some of the stuff on VH3 is simply brilliant.

Mike played on Dave era Van Halen songs. Perhaps Chickenfoot can go to a 3 piece for those songs much like VH did with Mike doing SGMAD

    07/25/98, 07/02/04
    11/11/04, 10/10/07
    03/09/12, 03/30/12

    David Lee Roth shows attended:

Satch can pull off any VH song, I mean c'mon, the guy can probably play them now better than Ed can. That is not meant as a slight to Ed, but his lifestyle has taken its toll on his playing abilities.

I would rather they just leave the VH out entirely, so we don't have to read a whole of posts about how Foot plays it better/worse than VH.

I also want to see this work out, so the fewer comparisons they bring upon themselves I think the better.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

    Preferred pronouns: he/him/his

I can see Sammy wanting to play Dreams, but the keyboards could pose a problem. I'm not a big Sammy solo expert, but I don't believe he's into using sequenced/taped sounds at a show.

I'd say that Satch could handle pretty much anything from the VH era, and my hope is that he would add some of his own flavor since that's what playing live is all about.

Anyway, I plan on seeing this for myself from around 5th row center stage.

Nah, I think Satch playing some VH will be very cool stuff. I don't think they'll play one lick of Dave era catalogue, even with Mike as one quarter of this outfit. They're going to play the whole CF album, plus draw off Sam's solo stuff, some Peppers, and Satch instrumentals, they're really not gonna have time for any CVH, they'll do Sam era VH.

I'd estimate there will be 2-3 Van Hagar tunes in the set. Presuming they ditch any piped in keyboard tracks (which I dearly hope they do, Sam's been doing it in his solo outings anyway), and with Satch behind the axe, if I had my druthers, I'd like to hear:

Humans Being (Satch's tone, Mike's backing vox, this is a no brainer, gimme)
    Summer Nights
    Seventh Seal*

*I'd have listed Don't Tell Me as my preferred Balance track, but I think that one's too signature Edward.

He's not. Instead, the Wabos play tweaked acoustic/electric axe versions of formerly synth tracks like Dreams and Right Now. FYI, the live guitar version of Right Now is FAR superior to the studio keyboard version.
