    VH1 vs. Appetite For Destruction

They had this debate on That Metal Show the other night for best debut album. Jim Florentine, Eddie Trunk, and Frankie Bello from Anthrax all went with VH1. The other guy went with Appetite but I think he only did it to have a debate.

To quote Eddie Trunk "Appetite is great but there is nothing like the first Van Halen album."

    I would have to agree.

Its like asking which is better, Sgt. Peppers or Wham. No contest. Guns and Roses didn't change music, Van Halen did. They get too much credit for not doing a whole hell of alot.

No doubt Van Halen is the winner in this comparison.

On the other hand, 'Appetite' was a great album that gave some of those 'hair bands' a kick in the ass.

Damn VH act like a bunch of ten year olds sometimes.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

I respectfully disagree. Guns N' Roses certainly changed music. As someone else pointed out Glam Metal ruled the day when they appeared on the scene and they pretty much put an end to that. Unfortunately for them, grunge pretty much did the same to them not too long after that.

Grunge didn't end GNR...GNR ended GNR. They were doing fine during the '91-'93 heyday of Grunge.

The lasting effect of "Appetite For Destruction" was not near as important to rock and roll as "Van Halen I" was. It didn't change rock and roll, and pave the way for a new sound. It was simply a great album in the middle of a lot of cheesy shit.

GNR had a run of ONE great album, a double album that should have been ONE decent album. That's the whole scope of their career, a good 3-4 year period. They were their own worst enemy and never had near the impact they could have.
