Wow! I've been a fan for years and have seen all these videos but it still amazes to see what Ed can do with the guitar.

wow...i don't bring it up very often, but those two clips really demonstrate how much mike is missed...not so much in the bass playing, but the singing. This track is a great example of "that signature Van Halen vocal sound" or whatever we want to call. The second video also pretty much proves, that at least on that song, there weren't piping in anyone's vocals to cover up Mike's absence.

    Eddie can still play!!!

Although, is it me or does the guitar sound (excuse my lack of guitar termonology) more higher pitched (in the 2008 vid)?

It still amazes and intrigues me seeing the 2nd video. What in God's holy name did Ed do during that break last year before the last leg of shows?

Did he slip off the edge of his toilet seat while standing on it fixing a clock, get a vision of the Flux Capacitor and was able to make time travel possible. And with the help of a Delorean was able to go back in time to see himself playing live at the Enchantment Under the Sea Dance and then finally he understood what he needed to do to play like THAT once again???....

He must have because when he came back he was able to do things that he couldn't do in the prior legs. It still amazes me!

Or maybe he just ate some Wheaties?

I thing the 2008 version is better. I have yet to hear a really good to great live version from the 80s. The guitar always seemed muted and off for some reason to me. The good part was the outro solo and that was about it. The 98 Australia version was great other than Gary.

The 2008 version had more of the metallic crunch that the earlier versions were missing. The outros were a bit different each time I saw them in 2007-2008- always good to great. - all 3 Van Halens really hammering it out each time
Wolfie is not Mike, but he's more than ok.
Mike is gone, but not forgotten. They played some amazing shows from 2007-2015; some people are in denial about it.

Ain't just you. Unless the '83 recording is playing slow, it sounds detuned about half a step. Believe the '08 matches the album.

They are both great versions of the song. In 83 he doesn't do the tapping intro though. Got to have that, so I'm going w/ the 2008 version.
