Nailed the tone and the feel. We all know that technically it's not too hard to pull off but he got all the important stuff dead on.

Kind of...caffeine and nicotine were Franks drugs of dependance and in copious amounts.

The Dweez was great when he played in Australia last year. I went to the show mainly in anticipation of seeing Vai but Dweezil's tone and maturity blew Steve Vai away. When Steve came on his whole sound overpowered the band, his playing really did not fit in with the context of the night nor music and I could not wait for him to get off. Dweezil on the other hand was stunning and did his dad's music proud.

If you have the chance to see Zappa plays Zappa it is worth it.

Sorry to say this and I mean no offense...

But I freakin hate it when someone says that playing eruption isn't technically hard. Are you kidding me? I've been playing guitar for over 10 years and I dont come close to playing it right...or even close.

It is one of the most technically challenging bits I know of. I can play guitar really well but Eruption is really hard for me. Not that I work on it that often but cmon...it's not that easy.

    Right?!

I have found myself staring at the tab for extended periods forming a slight bit of drool and feeling quite inadequate.

It's not easy. But it's not nearly as hard as it sounds. Take it slow and you will see that it's not as daunting as one may think.

I just hate it when people play the ending tapping bit of Eruption only and others think that they are like, "God" or something.

The easiest part of the solo is the tapping. The beginning sections are what is really hard to get down.

I bet you are right. I even hired a guitar teach to show me it and the guy had the balls to say...well before you go there you need to get X, Y, and Z under your belt so let's take it slow. I took 4 lessons from the bastard and dumped his ass! I want to learn the song not get roped into a year of lessons so I can feed his coke addiction....but I digress....

I just need to really focus on it and I bet I can come close...not as close as Dweezil here but...I know I could get close if I really worked on it for a period of time (a few months?).

I also dont agree with the above post who mocks you...I think what you said was right and not a conceited comment...

There are parts of it that are easy and some that I STILL, after working on it for YEARS, can't get down just right.
But most people that hear me play it think I'm nailing it note-for-note but I'll always hear the notes I don't get.

It's still a work in progress for me, as well.
Just get a GOOD transcription of it and keep bangin' away at it and I'm sure you get it eventually.
