Default Fresno, 1979: Dance The Night Away, You're No Good, Bottoms Up

These tunes have been posted individually before, yet here are all three in one package. From the opening night of the second VH World Tour, Selland Arena - Fresno, CA - March 25, 1979. This is the same video that made the rounds of television in the days before MTV broke open.

You can really hear Mike's bass and vocals very clearly on these. He sounds great and is such a key piece in the classic VH sound. I think these were probably fixed up a bit in the studio afterwards but it still sounds very live and is quite a good representation of what the band really sounds like in a live setting. VH have always sounded terrific live (let's forget about 04) and much better, in my opinion, than they do on record which tends to not quite capture the true sound of the band.

Cool to see all 3 tunes together and going down memory lane.
I'm 42 now and I remember when VH ll came out. I played that album over and over and over. Great Summertime Album and my personal favorite VH album (if that's even possible). Awesome Stuff !!

Thanks for posting this- it's memory lane for me as well (I'm 45). I bought this album the day it came out and played it over and over on my parent's large Zenith stereo console (with the volume 3/4 of the way up). I had a white Strat copy that I had striped up with black tape to look like the VH1 guitar. I remember tearing my hair out trying to copy the licks on You're No Good. I thought that song might be "low hanging fruit" to figure out but it turns out it wasn't... Not to mention that our singer practically had an aneurism trying to hit those high notes. Tapping was still a mystery to many guitarists back then since we couldn't watch it 24/7 on youtube.com.

Awesome! Yeah I remember seeing the Dance the Night away part of this on a late night cable music show called Night Flight back in the day. Right after they showed a live Black Sabbath cover of "Blue Suede Shoes" lol. Awesome awesome stuff. This is the VH I love.

During the last tour..in the VIP pre show dinner thing...they played this along with the VH1 lip sync thing and they were perfectly clear amazing quality. I really hope they start releasing this stuff!

    Thx for posting it!

I'd love to get my Bill and Ted on and witness CVH for myself. What a sight it must have been.

This is awesome footage. I actually like this footage better than the Oakland '81 footage (but, only just).

I would of loved to have seen them back then. you can see that they are still hungry in these clips. Its great stuff. I'd love to see the full show.

You know, I was there but in retrospect I feel I took it for granted. I saw *so* many concerts back then, that I wish I would have skipped something like Blue Oyster Cult so I would have had the money for more VH shows. When you're 18 though you never think of the big picture, and I certainly never thought I'd be listening to this music several decades later! I saw them open for Sabbath, not sure if I saw the II tour (we used to get very shitfaced for concerts), and I saw all of the rest except for 1984 for some reason- I think due to my appendix. I saw two nights in a row of the Diver Down tour at the Spectrum in Philly, and yes Dave's rap in between songs was almost identical word for word... It's hard to put into words the feeling that you would get when purchasing the latest CVH album and playing it on the stereo for the first time.

Get a load of Ed's tone on these...especially DTNA and You're No Good. That fucking crunchy sound he gets is ridiculous. THAT right there is Van Halen.

How anyone could watch that and not be thoroughly disgusted with what would become of them (read: VH3) is beyond me.

VH with Dave ('78-'84) - The best years....the "real" VH.
VH with Sam ('86-'96) - Incredible era....."We have renamed this town 'New Halen!'.
VH with Gary ('98) - Fucking disaster. WTF was that??
VH with Wolf/Dave ('12-'15) - Amazing comeback. Smokin' album and tours.
