    John Candy

Oh Lord, legend Canadian Actor John Candy passed away on this date 15 years ago at the age of 43. He left us far too soon.

From a great movie. He will always be "Uncle Buck" in my mind!

Ah yes.. he was such a great actor.
Someone recently said he died from a coke overdose b/c he was unhappy from his appearance? I thought this seemed uncharastic. Anyone know if he was into drugs?

I've heard that but not as a cause of death. And for anyone who hasn't seen SCTV with him on it, you need to.

John Candy is one of the very few that I actually miss quite a bit. I really feel kind of sad when I see his movies now. I really enjoyed his talent and he was a genuinely nice man in real life.

Yeah, the thing about Candy was he was a great actor, as well as a great physical comedian, and just a great guy.

Check out his performance in JFK, or his heart warming performance in "Only the Lonely"...

His death wasn't unexpected. His father died of a heart attack at 35. John believed he wouldn't live to an old age either with his legendary appetite and hard living. That idea is probably why he lived so fully. At least it was quick, heart attack, in his sleep, probably brought on by untreated sleep apnea.

Even now, the thought of John Candy makes me smile. To be able to have that effect years after his death says a lot about the man and the pleasure he brought with his movies.

    Yeah, that was great.

Here's a clip of it although not the best quality.

And finally, I found a thoughtful tribute to the man.

    Barf: Always when I'm eating!

Dot Matrix: Hey, stop looking up my can.
    Barf: Sorry.

Barf: Oh, my gosh. It's not just a spaceship. It's a Transformer.

Barf: Abandon ship! Abandon ship! Women and mogs first!

Rick Moranis' character in Ghostbusters was originally written for John Candy, but he turned it down. Since I found that out (from the DVD commentary, I believe) I've tried to imagine him in that role.

I'll never forget where I was. My dad was driving me and the girl I thought I was to marry (we were in high school and neither had a car) to the Houston Ballet. We were going to see Swan Lake. it was announced on the radio that Candy had died.

Candy was a comedic genius and from everything I've ever heard a gem of a human being. I love John Candy and if he's on TV I'm watching. Whether it's Brewsters Millions, Uncle Buck, Great Outdoors, or that one where he was a security guard...with Meg Ryan and the other guy.

I miss John Candy being alive.
