Van Halen pulls videos off You tube

Not sure if this has been covered, but I sometimes would put a video on to remember the good times while trapped in the office.... WELL yesterday, I was searching and someone posted that all videos have been pulled down due to Copyright infringments... and I am left with 500 versions of people playing eruption... Really, come on Ed, you wont even let us look at your past body of work unless we pay you... it was HFT.. now its WTF ?!?!?!?

guess this economy is hurting everyone....
Sam, Dave,Gary... who cares. its all about what makes you feel good.

That link works, but many of the VH ones now do say "Removed Due to Copyright Infringement"

They probably can only remove the official videos, not bootlegs, but that is just an assumption, no where near a professional opinion.

Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

Hmmmm, what a novel idea...artists to make money for their work??

I agree with VH (and other artists) pulling video's and other copyrighted material from You Tube. Why should artists give away work for free?

While I enjoy seeing old VH videos and such...if it werent for You Tube we would have to pay to buy the DVD of these videos or see them on TV (which is quite rare).

I'm not some goody goody...but as a musician...my feelings are to protect artists and their materials.

All of DLR's official videos are removed now as well by Warner Music Group.

Sometimes they do this right before they open their own official channel for the band, so, they might be back up soon.

I agree. It is nice having Hot for Teacher, etc. on my computer to watch anytime I want, but I really should have to pay for it.

That being said, it isn't worth enough to me to pay for it, therefore, they can keep it!

This has been coming for a while. Warner and youtube had a falling out a couple of months ago, I'm actually surprised it took this long for the videos to be removed.

I blame Micheal Anthony for this.

Not really just wanted to take it in a different direction.

Dude, I hear you and share your frustration. However, you can always buy/rent/copy (hear that, LeftyVanHalen? ) the VH Video Hits DVD - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0275767/ It's got Hot For Teacher, Panama and Jump. And in better quality than YT.

I grabbed all the available dvds long ago. They cant pull the rare stuff which is what youtube is great for!

    Eddie Van Halen in 2012:

"ESQ: What are you going to do with all the material that you wrote with Sammy Hagar?

EVH: Oh, I hadn't thought about that. That's some great music. They're just on vacation, maybe. They're off to college and they're going their own way. Who knows?"

The truth is, Youtube has no one else to blame in this mess, as a result of it's own lax content policing. For instance roughly once a month, some dipshit will post entire Led Zeppelin albums at the site. Using some free downloadable software, this material can then be ripped into mp3s. Add in some time and patience and PRESTO! A person (or many persons) have up to seventy percent of the Led Zeppelin catalogue at their fingertips, without ever once coming near a record store (online or otherwise), let alone even paying for the material. Youtube not only allows the material to become available in the first place, it remains as such for days and in some cases, weeks. Why would record companies bother to support such a practice (let alone the site that condones it), when it takes away such a sizeable chunk of it's bottom line in this dismal economy?

Bootlegs however, are a far murkier area. Since this is not copyrighted material, the band and label have no claim of ownership. And the sad truth being that after more than a decade, Van Halen fans frustrated by the band's utter disregard with delivering new product to the stores will seek out rare, unreleased material by any means necessary. For this material to be made unavailable while the VH braintrust refuses to offer little more than repackaged material already seen and available for years is simply unconscionable, let alone blatantly insulting to it's audience.

They actually pulled down a video that my wife had posted of our (then) 3 year old playing his toy guitar along to Poundcake.

Though I can see why a group would not want to allow bootlegging of their material, i subscribe to Pearl Jam's approach to this...if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. I bought several of the official releases of identical imports they released. They came with stickers that said something like "not to be confused with the more expensive import version" and then they began releasing every concert on CD with great mixing and mastering of the tracks. Everyone one wins. Fans get crips, good sounding releases of everything they wanted instead of having to deal with cloudy, staticky bootlegs and the band made their money.
