Default At this point Van Halen needs to open the vault!

    For real.

Think of all the bands that release live albums and dvds from different tours. Think of all the bands that release demo's and unlreased tracks.

The band should recognize this and be selling it direct or through limited releases with Warner Bros.

Can you imagine if you could go pick up a complete OU812 tour show right now? Or Fair Warning etc.

Yesterday I heard "I Want Some Action" on youtube which was a leftover from 5150 and it was like hearing new Van Hagar, it was a great feeling but with a hint of sadness.

    Release the VAULT!!

EVH: Oh, I hadn't thought about that. That's some great music. They're just on vacation, maybe. They're off to college and they're going their own way. Who knows?"

It would be great. A well done, expansive retrospective would be awesome. I don't care for Kiss but their retrospectives seemed pretty neat...didn't they have three volumes or something? I would love to see a huge collection come out that can be purchased in different ways. In small volumes or as a large all inclusive set. I'd love to see some cleaned up, remastered versions of club day material that I've seen and heard on bootlegs. I'd love to hear alternate takes from all the records, unreleased tracks etc and I really want to hear more of what they were working on with VHIII. Add to all that remastered OU812 and 5150, two records that I think the sound prevents me from getting further into, plus some DVDs of concert footage from all four incarnations of the group as well as a complete Oakland show. I'd pay a lot of money for something like this. I know most of us would. I would have to think that PR wife of his is whispering this in his ear every night.

We'll only see this if Ed dies before Alex because Al is all about the $$$$$. Not sure what Wolfie would do if it was up to him. So in 15 years or so we'll get the rare stuff, just in time for me to not give a sh*t.

There is a demand for this stuff but they will never do it. They are not a fan friendly band.
They should be releasing stuff like this on their website exclusively to the fans. Other bands do this.. VH has never done anything right why start now ?

I get the feeling that the reason has to do with royalties to Sam and Mike.

    Eddie:

We did film and record 7 shows, but we kind of thought, why give people what they just saw? We have it. Maybe later. We just didnít feel like the timing was right. Why give them exactly what they just saw? Somewhere in the future Iím sure itíll surface. Maybe, if and when we decide to put everything we have out. Including things like me playing guitar at the 6th grade talent show. Thereís all kinds of cool and funny shit we could put out. Who knows, really, when there are so many other things to do first. Like put out some new tunes.

they have the vaults sealed pretty tight, sine they went into 5150 I think the only "rare" things we've heard are the 5150 demos (which include I want some action)...nuthin' else at all. I know they had stuff left over from 5150, FUCK and Balance....ed said they had enough material for double albums for both and I can name a ton of songs that were left off of each, they ahve left over stuff from DD and 1984 not to mention the live stuff....

I've never understood why VH is so protective of this stuff.

What an idiot EVH is there right there^^. Then why charge $150 for a ticket to see songs from 25+ years ago?

Van Halen should at least get their business taken care of so the fans and the band can reap the benefits. WTF? I cant even believe they still sell the original copies of 86-96.

I imagine that royalties, how to disperse them etc, play a huge role in why we've not seen the vaults open...however there could be an artistic/philosophical side to it. They didn't release it for a reason. A lot of people have said before that releasing stuff like the Beatles Anthology Vols 1-3 can diminish the original releases and the "magic" of hearing the final product. Others have said that if something wasn't good enough to release at the time it was written, why would it be good enough to release 20 years later?

I personally disagree because I LIKE listening to the works in progress and hearing how songs evolve, it actually adds to the "magic" if you will. But some artists are very protective of what they leave on the cutting room floor. They don't want people to hear what they consider crap.
