    Default So Cal Help

My family and I are traveling out to the West Coast and will be taking my daughter to Disneyland and at the end of the week we will be at Universal City, My wife is attending a conference so I will have an 11 year old daughter to entertain. Other than the City Walk, Park etc., any suggestions on places we should see. I appreciate all suggestions and Pm's. We'll be out the week of March 9th. Thanks in advance.

    In and Out for sure.

    Magic Mountian-

Downtown Hollywood (the stars on the sidewalk- go during the day time or
    well lit night time!!!)

La Zoo- if you want to see some yellow polar bears.

    Sea world-

Raging waters - if the weather is good.

May feel like going to beverly hills- I hear celebrity tours are interesting.

Archlight and the Bridge movie theatres are pretty bad ass. The Bridge is the MTV movie house.

You can go to the Santa monica peir & prominade- that is probably a must.

    Roscos Chicken and waffles.

There are more... I cant think right now.

As a visitor in the Summer of '80, these two were standouts, along with Knott's Berry Farm.

Do not take your 11 year old daughter to downtown Hollywood at night.

Presuming you are staying in the confines of the greater Los Angeles basin and not headed to San Diego, which requires a whole other list of suggestions:

Griffith Park for hiking, plus the observatory is damn cool for kids.

Getty Center (expensive, but worth it)

Santa Monica Third Street Promenade and Pier, yes, good family spots.

Venice Beach for people watching (not on Fri or Sat nite, though).

Buena Park has a whole avenue of kid friendly activity, including Knott's Berry Farm, Ripley's museum, Wax Museum, Medieval Times, and a movie museum.

    Pasadena's Old Town

The Arclight movie theaters are very kewl, not cheap, but quite a movie experience. If you go, check out the one in Hollywood, 'cause it's right next to Amoeba Records, the last real vinyl record shop in West L.A.

Malibu - Neptune's Net for the fish and chips and the yuppie biker surfer crowd, almost guaranteed celebrity sightings.

Huntington Beach and pier - you might run into Mike Anthony, ya never know.

Laguna Beach - great art galleries, family friendly sun and sand.

    Queen Mary in Long Beach

    Balboa Island in Newport Beach

Damn, I had forgotten about the Queen Mary. It's so weired starting at one end of the staterooms and not being eble to see all the way to the other end because the decks have a vertical "bow" to them. VS, do they still do the tour through the ship?

I believe it's a hotel now, but no less impressive on the outside. They do this Halloween thing there every year 'cause of the continuing ghost sightings on the ship.

You can still tour the Queen Mary, plus you can take a watertaxi to the Aquarium of the Pacific which has many interactive displays.

Will you be renting a car cause what people are suggesting is pretty spreadout. The lightrail will take you from Hollywood to Universal, also you would be able to get to the Aquarium that way. Buses for the Zoo, Roy Rogers Museum and oh god there's one more attraction in the Park.

You'll need a car for Griffith Observatory and within the OC.

There's a cool water slide up at the 5150 nuthouse. Don't go on porn party night though.

Not to be confused with any Queen Mary's you find in West Hollywood.
