    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=290297904157

The auctions for one of the old Peavey 5150 shirts, but check out the black Wolfgang pictured beside it.

    Look familiar?

Whoa... that's either Ed, Chip Ellis, or some dude who killed some poor Peavey Wolfgang Special's headstock...

In the GW interview Chip said that they tried a bunch of different finishes on 8 different guitars and Ed tried them all out and picked his favourites. They were numbered 1-8. I wonder if this is one of those guitars.

You might be right, but I always thought the number "4" just represented Van Halen's fourth 4th lineup.
Sorta how they represented their lineup with Gary Cheorne as Van Halen 3.

If the guitar were "legit", I'm sure it would be advertised as such.

Hi Doug and Johnny, I'm doing well. How are you guys? Still a big Ernie Ball Music Man EVH collector. I am looking for a new old stock blue quilt EVH if you know anyone who has one for sale. Thanks!

If you look close, that Floyd looks like a Peavey one I think... so it must be a replica guitar.

The overspray looks like deliberate lines instead of overspray. Kind of neat that someone made a replica of it, though.

Guys... It's a flat top Peavey Wolfgang Special with the headstock sanded down and cut out. Ed's "4" guitar was an arch top but without any of the frills--no binding, tone knob, or headstock finish. They made all of the test-finish models like that to keep production on them fast. He liked the "4" guitar best, and its acrylic finish is what they ended up going with for the final production version. When it first appeared I too thought the "4" was to represent the new version of Van Halen, but it was just a coincidence.
