Default Yorkshire Ripper "cured" - whatever!!

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/news...Broadmoor.html

Yorkshire Ripper Peter Sutcliffe is fit to be freed from Broadmoor, according to doctors at the high security hospital. The decision is a major step towards 62-year-old Sutcliffe's aim of being freed altogether. He was jailed for life in 1981 after murdering 13 women and trying to kill seven others over a five-year period in the 1970s.

If the Ministry of Justice agrees with the doctors' verdict, he will be sent to a medium-secure unit where he could be allowed out on short release for rehabilitation. A source close to Mr Sutcliffe told The Sun he is regarded as a "model patient" at Broadmoor, and medics are more concerned about the risk the public poses to him rather than the risk he poses to the public.

"He is effectively cured as long as he never stops taking his medication," the source said.

Sutcliffe believed he was on a "mission from God" to kill prostitutes - although not all of his victims were - and was dubbed the Yorkshire Ripper because he mutilated their bodies using a hammer, a sharpened screw driver and a knife.

He has spent nearly all of his 27 years in captivity at Broadmoor after being diagnosed as mentally ill, but refused treatment until 1993 when the Mental Health Commission ruled that it should be given forcibly.

It emerged in 2006 that he is not among the 35 "worst" offenders who have been told that they must spend their entire life behind bars.

Sutcliffe is now represented by human rights lawyer Saimo Chahal. His legal team have fought hard recently to have him declared sane and given a release date.

A source close to the convict said: "Peter was told last month by his lawyers that after detailed discussions with the Broadmoor team he'd been classified as low risk.

"The psychiatrists advised that if the powers-that-be allowed him to be re-categorised and sent to a medium secure unit, he was at low risk of trying to escape or breaking the rules.

"When you are in medium secure units you are basically being prepared for a new life outside, you need to be rehabilitated slowly and taught simply how to live again.

"Peter has not handled money since he was locked up nearly 28 years ago. He has only ever bought things out of catalogues and has not had to cook or clean or do his own laundry.

"He would be taken on supervised shopping trips at first and then allowed out on his own and given simple tasks - like buying a train ticket, catching a bus or going to a supermarket."

The source said the main concern was that Sutcliffe might be recognised.

"A risk assessment was done as to whether Peter was likely to abscond if allowed out on the streets alone. But Peter told me he was marked as low risk on every aspect of his behaviour," the source said.

"He has been a model patient. He has never caused any aggravation and is liked by the staff.

"Peter said the only fly in the ointment was that it was agreed he was at very high risk of being attacked and hurt if people outside recognised he was the Yorkshire Ripper.

"However that was countered by the fact that he is now unrecognisable as the Peter that was locked up. He is bloated up to 19st, his complexion is bad and he shuffles about. Peter's trademark jet black well-groomed beard is now grey and straggly."

His legal team have been angling for this for years and now hope to take his case to the European Court for Human Rights.

My own opinion is that he should be in a box, six foot under.

I lived thru those times here in Yorkshire was he was on the loose. It affected everyone. The fear was palpable and I wasn't allowed out with my brother or father to escort me.

Apparently God doesnt tell him to rip women apart with screwdrivers, knives and hammers any more. Oh, well.. that's ok then! I feel so much better now... and I'm sure the families of the victims feel better too!

I'm wondering how they will be able to keep track on a daily basis if he is taking his meds??? I also wonder why they call it "Life in Prison" when it nevers seems to happen.

"Peter said the only fly in the ointment was that it was agreed he was at very high risk of being attacked and hurt if people outside recognised he was the Yorkshire Ripper."

This made me laugh... there is a long queue of people who have openly said, they would hunt him down if he was ever let out.

Sorry, this "cured" shit is just that.. bullshit! He is without concience, without humanity, and therefore has no human rights in my book. He's worse than an animal.

Sutcliffe made "Jack" look like an amateur!

Too bad the inmates didnt do the job on him like they did on Jeffery Dahmer.

Can't imagine why they would even think about allowing this guy out. And, he's not in the "35 worst offenders"?

makes ya wonder who could be worse, and why.

How convenient of them to give out a description of how he looks now. I'm sure certain people will be needing that if and when he ever gets out.

my wife is one of several pshyciatrists who are objecting to him being moved from broadmoor, she interviewed him a few times and made her reccomendation, she has since not been allowed access to either him or the report that states he is "fit" to be moved.
but she did say he is much improved but still has a long way to go, she also mentioned that she wouldnt trust him.

Begs the question how one "improves" a creature like this. Fact is, he murdered 13 women.. battered the crap out of 7 more, he shouldn't even be alive much less be allowed in a medium security prison where life is less restricted.

One of the reasons he evaded capture for so long is that he seems as normal as the next man. Of course he's behaved in prison, there are no women to rip to shreds in there!

It's just madness that he is seen as cured.
