Default So which VH show would you choose?

Gotta go with the Fair Warning tour. What's so painful about that one is that I was right at that age (13) where looking back I could have pulled it off. So frustrating.

Easy choice. Seen every tour since 'Warning, and by all reports that was when Dave really started hitting the drugs and lifestyle full blown, and it started showing in performances. BTW, I was at the UsFest within the first ten rows. Not pretty. Clusterfucking disappointment.

Every old timer I've ever discussed this with, the ones that actually were there back in the day, pretty much unanimously agree that in terms of live outings, Dave never was as good as he was on the VH 1/Sabbath/Journey ticket, and the World Vacation and World Invasion tours.

Though Fair Warning had the studio tunes, the tour itself was hit and miss, according to long timer followers. I barely remember my 'Warning show, so I couldn't really say, and of course the Oakland footage showcases a good night for them.

So I'd probably have to say the Vacation/Invasion tours would've been the best time to see Dave era VH live.

Someone should do one of these poll thingies for the Sam era tours too. Sure, I'll do it.

We've discussed the US Festival before and I do realize it's not all that it's cracked up to be, but I threw it in there because I think many, MANY people perceive it as the ultimate VH experience and I was curious to see if results would show that. Quite honestly, up until a year ago I might have picked it myself.

1984 Tour by far. Not inferring that it was the best setlist, the best they performed, the best whatever... but for me personally, that's when my older brother got me into them. That's when they took over the world. That's when their stage was two stories, that's when they were in the Guiness Book for their light show. My first boot was Montreal '84. I had never seen anything like that. 25 years later, I still haven't seen a stage, lights, show, and most importantly, a band consume and arena like that.

Interesting take. As for light shows I've never seen anything quite like Pink Floyd's Pulse tour in '94. I didn't see it live but I've watched the DVD in utter amazement at what they were able to pull off with the lights, screen, and lasers. If you haven't seen it I HIGHLY recommend it.

I would have to go with Invasion tour , Sheenan's band Talas opened the show . First time hearing Sheenan play , he was all over the neck of his bass .VH kicked ass , it was the only time I saw Eddie play Les Paul live . It was gold top if I remember correctly , used it on Women In Love . Hide your Sheep tour was good but Roth was wasted , he had the James Brown thing going on most of the night .

Ditto on that....I go as far back as the Invasion tour ( only my 2nd rock concert I had ever attended at that point in my life ).....I would have loved to have seen VH as Sabbaths' opening act and experienced for myself if the legends of them blowing BS off the stage were true....by all accounts it seems to be the case, but I would have loved to have witnessed it.....

I too was at US.....at it was a miserable experience.....really from start to finish.....truth be told, by the time VH hit the stage.....I just wanted to go home.....

BTW.....Scorpions blew our boys away that day......

Fair Warning, easy. Excellent setlist, plus I've heard some pretty solid performances.

WOW! I can't believe I'm the only vote for Club dates just before they were signed.....did any of you ever hear Pasadena Civic 77? Eddie is on fire!! People like Randy Rhoads and Gene Simmons were coming to the shows, while Van Halen themselves were opening up for George Lynch's band "The Boyz". What I would give to see a dvd of this like the Quiet Riot with Randy club dvd.

    Hollywood Club Scene (1977-1982)

    Van Halen (EVH)
    Quiet Riot (Randy Rhoads)
    The Boyz (George Lynch)
    Motley Crue (Mick Mars)
Ratt (Jake E Lee, Warren DiMartini)
    Wasp (Chris Holmes)
    The Runaways (Lita Ford)
    Rough Cutt (Amir Derahk)

EVH 1979: Well, actually it's not much of a vacation, because we run everything ourselves. We design our own album cover, we have to be in the office every day to sign checks - the whole corporation revolves around us. Nothing can be done without our approval. We even have photo approval.

i was really tempted to select fair warning then I thought...well a club date would great but then settled on VH1/VHII/WACF tour. From what people tell me (and what I've read on the links has only reaffirmed it) that was the best time to see them in as much as them really being on their game.
