is this even looooosely based on actual events or is this unit completely imaginary?

not that it matters in as much as whether or not it will be a good movie...though it might neat to know there was a unit like that in real life.

I guess real WWII heroes like George S. Patton are too old fashioned nowadays. The idea of this movie seems to be that "regular" war is not exciting or violent enough to make a movie, it's necessary to up the ante. Sign of the times?

i wouldn't read too much into it...i doubt that's the case. It seems like a comic book sort of movie and that's ok. Not every movie has to be steeped in reality. Besides, Patton has already been made.

I think movies like Saving Private Ryan and Schindler's List as well as other recent war movies have done a great job of showing how violent and gross and awful "real" war is and they were incredibly well received....not too mention Black Hawk Down which I think was a really phenomenal accomplishment.

There's room for a graphic novel approach to war movies. It doesn't in any way diminish the reality of war or the significance of veterans and great war leaders.

Actually no. Originally this was going to be a remake of the 1978 Italian movie but it seems now that it was only the premise of part of the movie that has been copied (sounds familiar)

The basic plot is two fold apparently. One is a group of soldiers who have been convicted in court martial being free (either allowed or by a train crash) and setting off on a revenge or suicide mission. The other plot I think involves an abused Jewish girl getting her revenge on a group of Nazis. The two plots collide etc.

He started writing this one years ago but then did Kill Bill and death proof as he tried to cut it down to a one film size script, which he reckons is his best.

I expect this to be very bloody - sort of Kill Bill on steroids.

I do not expect there to be much in the way of dialogue after the first half hour.

My husband saw it yesterday. Took the day off just to see it, as he is a huge Tarantino fan. Said it was just as good anything he's done, including the Kill Bills.

    Oh, and yeah....bloody as hell.

I'm going to see it next week but, funnily enough, I feel a bit awkward about going to watch a movie where Nazis get scalped and Hitler is portrayed the way he apparently is, because I live in Germany.

I wonder if it will sell well here and especially, will people laugh in the cinema. I don't want to get the shit beaten out of me for laughing.

There is advertising all over the city though, on billboards etc, and I think tarantino is very popular here.

    Could be an interesting experience.

man, this is the finest example I can come up with of a moment in which I wish you and I were hanging out offline together.

Going to see this movie with you in Germany would be a real treat.

no, I'm not asking you on a date...or am I?
    Stay out of it, dude.

I thought the movie was great. Probably my 2nd favorite behind Pulp Fiction.
