Default RS: Eddie Van Halen on Son Wolfgang: He Is a Part of Van Halen. Permanently.

Even Jeff Spicoli couldnt have imagined a life this awesome: Wolfgang Van Halen, 17, spent last year on the road with his dads band Van Halen, playing bass on Runnin With the Devil and Panama to packed arenas and hes still on schedule to graduate from high school this June. Wolfie had it the toughest on tour: he had three or four hours of [tutoring] every day, and then the gig, says Eddie Van Halen. I yanked him out of school for 11th grade, which is actually the most important year, because thats what they go by for college. And the school said, Were not going to let him back in, if you pull him out, because weve never done that before. Well, first time for everything, dude, you know? They did let him back for 12th grade, because he wanted to graduate with his buddies.

Wolfie plans to attend college at some point in the future, according to his dad: Hes obviously going to Julliard or something like that and theyll take him at the drop of a hat, because he is ready. And the kid can act, too. But for now? He is a part of Van Halen. Permanently.

That means Wolfgang is certainly a part of the bands plans for a new album: In the current issue, Eddie Van Halen said hes writing new songs for the next time Van Halen take the road. Ive got tons of music written, such a variety of stuff, Eddie told Rolling Stone. The essence of me is obviously there, and those drums, theyre always recognizable. But people expect a certain thing from Van Halen, and this isnt exactly bang-your-head-against-the-wall stuff.

I'd like to hear this from Wolf's perspective. Ed sounds a little domineering about the whole thing.

Getting Mike back would be great but it's still not going to change the fact Ed sucks and is a drunk nor will it change that all Dave wants to do is bounce up and down on Ed's nuts as much as possible...they aren't a band....lastly Ed will turn into 2004 revisited if Mike comes back because the guy is so fucked in the head that he actually thinks VH is better with his son on the bass.

I still have some respect for Al and Dave...very little but atleast some but it's slowly waning.

I laugh at anybody that thinks this thing is better then VH '86-'96

It amazes me how easily all the tough sheep caved when Ed waved the Dave card in their faces and had them smell the glove. After all that false bravado and tough talk about getting Dave back to make it a real reunion they caved faster then Ed at a brewery.

Had Ed, Al and Sam done a tour with Wolf on bass the Rothtards would of had a field day with it.

Well I would much rather have a possibility of Mike coming back but can honestly care less about what schooling Wolfgang has. Everybody here loves Valerie but guess what? She never had a proper education but she seems to be doing alright. I doubt that Mike, Dave, Eddie or Alex put much time into AP classes while they were in HS and any college they had was minimal. Gigging at on school nights can't be good for taking the SAT.

If Eddie is forcing the kid into music how is that so much different than an overbearing dad forcing his kid into sports, engineering, accounting, etc? Unlike many of us here, if Wolfgang falls on his face in college, he has a larger chance to have a better life than a typical college dropout. Several million, future royalties and access to everything that is in the vault of 5150 seems to be a good future regardless of what he does in life.

I wonder if this board was around in the early 90's how people would react to Sammy's 17 year old son being the orignal lead singer of Bloodline with a 13 year old Joe Bonamassa.

I will admit that I would rather have Mike back in the band but if Wolfgang can get Eddie into the studio, then I hope for a successful Chickenfoot career.

I honestly don't think for one second that Valerie would have allowed for Wolfie to skip 11th grade and tour if there wasn't some real playing potential for him.

That being said, I think that VH will make another album in the next 12 months and tour again before the next phase of the band happens and thats Wolfie going to college after taking a couple years off to record and tour.

Then and maybe then, if Eddie stays sober that we could see Mike and Sam return for a possible album/tour with or without Dave.

I've got to believe that Eddie does have a shitload of material to be worked out since he hasn't release much of anything in the last 11 years and how much time he has been fucking off in the studio all that time. I can't imagine he was doing nothing in there besides drinking and scoring porn music.

so ed acknowledges the music (if it does even see light of day) may be different from what we're used to hearing. ya, i can see being cautious about that to say the least. however, good if it's different. regardless of what the guy puts out, people will still bitch and moan and complain.

i'm willing to bet the album will be solid and have a few good songs on it.

it's not going to be anything like the first 6 albums. those of you who think it will be or want it to be need to pull your heads out of the proverbial time machine they're in.

But some here seem to believe it 1984 and they have a mullet and an IROQ in the driveway.
