Well it's about time. I know here in CT anytime you were on Livenations website and clicked the purchase tickets button it brought you to TM.

On another note for people who go to shows in CT, Live Nation is supposed to start selling tickets for the Chevrolet Theater (formally The Oakdale Theater) where you can actually purchase the location and seat you want instead of the usual Best Available that is seen now. Basically it will be like when you buy a plane ticket and you can choose your seat. I for one think this is a great idea.

i can see them really getting behind certain artists and really shoving them down everyone's throats with all sorts of exclusive contracts and what not. I just hope it doesn't have a negative impact on regional acts like Ian Moore, David Garza and lesser groups like Cowboy Mouth or even a group like Kings X or Extreme who are going to be playing smaller venues.

I was going to say something along those lines...

In this case, I hate the player (TM) *and* the game, i.e., legalized ticket scalping accompanied by several excessive "service" charges.

From now on I'll sneak into VH shows. Even if I get arrested it'll still be cheaper and I'll feel less violated (even allowing for prison rape).

I hear ya. I don't mind paying the usual 1 or 2 dollar "facility" fee, but these "service" charges are getting out of hand. Buy a $100 ticket, and it's like $130 by the time they've added tax and all the other garbage to the price, to say nothing of of the parking fee going from $10 to $20.

By the way, why the hell does it cost $2.50 to use TicketFast?

yep between the fees and legalized scalping, it's becoming very very cost-prohibitive to see national acts like Motley, Billy Joel, VH etc...

I remember when scalping used to be something done in alleyways and could land someone in jail. Now they have websites and store fronts...

I always wondered that myself. It costs $2.50 for you to use your printer and ink and free for them to print and pay postage. That never made sense to me either.

As far as ticket prices goes it is still mostly up to the band, at least the big ones, to set the ticket price. They want a set rate to play a show and depending on the building capacity, it can make the ticket price high or low. As a for instance when VH played Mohegan Sun tickets were damn near $200.00 each but in Worcester which is almost twice the size, the tix were much cheaper.

We're all screwed basically. Ticketmaster loves fucking everyone with retarded service fees. This absolutely blows.

Perhaps, but TM seems to set whatever service charges they like. Remember when Pearl Jam tried to put a stop to this? No dice.

The band doesn't have as much pull as you'd think. They get a flat fee, the promoter sets the prices according to what they think they can get away with. Yeah a band could lower their per show rate but the promoter could also lower their take.

I used to like phoning or going to the venue or the local record store.

Middle-men are the useless, pointless, criminal fuckshit-ruination of all that used to be good and holy.

That is true, and the downside to this is I know that here in CT the buildings that Live Nation books shows in they don't allow the high convenience charge fees that TM does. They still have them but they were typically half of what TM would charge.

One thing I can't stand about the whole process now is the VIP ticket packages. Just recently I wanted to get 4 tix to Nickelback at Mohegan Sun. Well low and behold if you wanted a decent lower level seat it was going to cost you over $200.00 a ticket for a $90.00 ticket because all the lower level seats seemed to be set aside for the VIP packages. Also since it is at a casino they held back tickets for their high rollers. So now I am counting on being able to buy 4 decent lower levels at face value but probably not until about 1 week before the show when production, the band and the casino release tickets they were holding back.
