Default Van Halenís debut released TODAY on 180 gram RTI vinyl!

this is cool, but does anyone still have a record player? I have always thought there is something special about playing a record on a phonograph because of the certain atmosphere it creates when played (probably just the hiss of the needle) but I doubt this will sell many copies.

I've had mine on order since they first anounced it, although I'll listen to it just once and then put it away for the most part.

As for the sound of vinyl, it simply has a warmth that digital does not, and likely never will have.

Oh yes, some of us do. You can trick up turntables real nice these days, I have mine run through my Bose system.

Vinyl sounds much better than any CD or mp3. Deeper, warmer, thicker, richer.

It might sound better, but I already have about nine copies of Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love, I don't need another.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

vinyl is my favourite way to listen to music. If I could rig up some sort of gyroscope shock absorber thingy I'd have a record player riding shotgun in my car.

As far as how many people still have them, you'd be surprised. They even make LP - MP3 players that plug in via USB to your computer, not that I'd buy one.

There are also some scary good audiophile turntables on the market...upwards of 10,000 bucks, they look like waffle irons. Absolutely incredible machines.

Indeed, I used to own a SOTA turntable...absolutely incredible, but they are way too expensive for me to consider even the cheapest one these days.

    Here's broken's "waffle iron, I believe.

The 180 gm RTI quality actually will probably produce a richer tone than any former VH vinyl pressings, of course. I'm so washed out on VH 1 I'm sure I'll only listen once, then put it away in a collector protective sleeve.

I do hope, rather foolishly, that the same treatment is offered for Fair Warning, but I doubt it. I'd also take a MoFI gold CD treatment for FW as well.

Ya know, as long as we're talking vinyl, I'm in the market for a new cartridge after lo these many years. What are the rest of you running for cartridge/needle combos?

Oh, and yeah VS, FW needs to be next!

What's Mikey doing on the cover?

Wasn't photo shopped out in 07?

One noticeable difference between Judas Priest and Metallica...
...Judas Priest only has one gay guy in the band.

I remember when my brother was about 10 or so (I am 16 years older than he is), he would come over to my house and say: "Hey Scott, play some of those big strange disks you have", meaning my records. I have a TON of 45's and I still have Diver Down and Fair Warning on vinyl. The turntable I used to have is up in the attic somewhere. I'm sure it still works but, I just got an Ipod touch for X-mas and I'm not going back.
