Default A Very Interesting Hagar Interview

Has some content I never knew... Sam even mentions he's open to recording with VH again.

Wow! Fantastic interview, one of the few guys who tells it like it is, amazingly refreshing. Hopefully the Chickenfoot thing might get Ed motivated to try and kick their ass.

You just gotta love this shit. 2.0

Q? You could open for Van Halen!

A Hey, you know what? It would be the smartest thing we ever did [laughs]. Could you imagine how that would be? ĎCause everyone would expect me to go out and jam with Dave. What people would imagine that to me, like everyone imagined the Sam & Dave tour and what I tried to do with that tour. When I drug Dave across the country on the Sam & Dave tour, it was done strictly to try to develop a relationship for a Van Halen Sam & Dave tour. But after going out with Dave I knew that thing was never gonna work out [laughs]. He wonít jam; he wonít cooperate. He goes out and does his little schtick and thatís it. But Daveís alright, Iím not down on Dave. I think he did a pretty good job on his thing considering heís been out of it for so long. To come back on jump on it and do that, I was pretty proud of him.

Was he referring to Dave w/ VH in '07/'08, or Dave on the Sam/Dave tour in '02? I'd say Dave in '02 is best left forgotten. Dave w/ VH recently... much better.

"And then, of course, he became frontman for the Mach III version (following David Lee Roth and the short-lived Gary Cherone period) of Van Halen."

    Sammy followed Gary?

who the fuck actually thinks that was the way it went? Has to be a typo.

Fucking EVH has all the opportunity in the world and continues to hide out.

    Eddie Van Halen in 2012:

"ESQ: What are you going to do with all the material that you wrote with Sammy Hagar?

EVH: Oh, I hadn't thought about that. That's some great music. They're just on vacation, maybe. They're off to college and they're going their own way. Who knows?"

I was not aware that some of the VHIII stuff were Balance rejects and did I read correctly that the 3 Best of songs came from tapes as far back as 5150.

doesn't really surprise me...seems to be very very common that bands have snippets and scraps here and there that don't make it onto one record and then time and new perspective bring them to life in a later record.

I've always had the impression that Ed's 10 albums of music etc is really just 10 records worth of riffs, half songs, progressions, sounds etc etc...like a doodle pad with all sorts of things scrawled over it. The idea that they went through them and found old stuff from the 5150 era in order to make the BOBW tracks seems pretty logical.

Doesn't surprise me a bit, and I'm sure it's the little riffs and hooks that Ed has more of than anything.

Check this out around 4:17 and keep in mind that it was filmed in 1982.
