Default Guitar Chords: Proof Of The Paranormal? (A Rant)

What the hell is the deal with guitar chords?

I don't care how much care you put into wrapping and tying them up they somehow find a way to tangle themselves. I haven't had much time in the last year to plug in my stuff so my chords have all sat coiled under my desk in my room. Sunday I pull the dust covers off my recording console and begin to gear up to record something. I reach for the top chord and low and behold it is intertwined with the other threee chords. So I have to stop and sit down and untangle the mess and I wonder what the hell happened because there is no reason that they should be tangled at all let alone all tangled together.

To make things interesting, the chords then begin to get caught in other items that are in the area such as drawer handles and my Floyd. If I were a rodeo cowboy and had been trying to rope those things on purpose it just wouldn't have happened. The physical odds would be too great and yet I seemed to be able to snag the smallest outcrop with my guitar chords. Worse, I then began to predict what I was going to snag next. There was a can of compressed air and I think to myslef: Self you are going to snag that can with this chord, I bet you. BINGO! I snag that damned can as if I were some kind of magician. I don't know what the deal is, I don't have problems with the extention chord for my weedwhacker. When I was a working musician I had all the chord ties and I tried everyting but somehow the chords found a way to tangle themselves. The only thing I never tried was keeping them seperate.

I'm pretty sure that guitar chords are actually creatures from a distant snake planet. Their mission is to drive unsuspecting guitarists crazy. It's working.

Sorry to waste your time, I just thought it was funny that I was having so much trouble with my chords last week.

    Axx:

Are you having trouble with your guitar chords or your guitar cords?

I can help you with both, actually.

Tell me how your fingers are tangled, and I'll tell you the name of the chord you're playing.

For guitar cords (more often called "cables"), tie them in a single not--but don't pull or stretch them when you do it; just keep folding each one in half until you can GENTLY tie it together. They don't twist up with one another when packed together, and when you need one you just untie it the opposite way you originally tied it. I literally store all of my instrument and microphone cables in my studio this way (and have for years) and have never had any problems what-so-ever.

    You know what you need?

    I do.

    And so does Eddie.

    And it's already here.

The new EVH cables won't keep you from getting your cords tangled up, but at least you will feel better about untangling them when you see the "EVH" on the plugs.

You will be able to take solace in the fact that you are not untangling some cheap cord, but a cord that has taken years of trial and error to develop, with technology that you can't find in just any cord.

And remember, any other cords associated with EVH prior to this cord are crap. Even though this cord looks exactly like the previous cords used by EVH, they have been completely rebuilt from the ground up.

So, enjoy your new cord, and for God's sakes, be careful out there.

    OH MY GOD

    I JUST BOUGHT NINE

Excuse me while I go throw my Peavey cables in the trash. And to think, they only cost half of what these new ones cost! They MUST have been crap! These cables are "the shit", because Fender "just gets it."

Go wireless. I probably will someday, as my cords get tangled as well.

I will buy these cords, yet I suspect that it was the evil of the cords that sent Eddie over the top and into Smoking Loon Land. I'd kick these cords in the nuts if I could find them.

Actually, I need a poster of Ed for my room, maybe the cords will behave because they don't wear cups.

Sorry about the spelling, I'm going through a tricky time right now and I'm not 100%.

Sometime in or around 1978, the local dealership started selling these heavy duty black cords with brass ends on them, that were issued in burlap bags. I forget the name of the damned things, yet they were guaranteed not to kink. Well, truth in advertising for a change, they were outstanding. They came in 10 -15 foot lengths, yet you needed to scrub the ends with a Brillo or steel wool pad every so often, as they'd corrode in a horrible fashion otherwise.

They were only available (at least locally) for a very short period of time, yet if I could find 'em again, they'd be worth whatever the current cost might be.
