All I want to know is will the pickup give me Ed's tone? Or do I have to purchase the cable, pick, and strap as well...

$400 for the signed one.... you can't even see the signature when mounted. What's the point

That's a lot of money for a pickup. The markup on those is huge. Seymour Duncan charges about the same for their Duncan 78 (formerly the EVH pickup). Is this the same pickup?

$400 for the reliced and signed one is a lot cabbage. Sure you get the autograph, but you don't get to see it if you use the pickup. I don't know, there are lots of great pickups around for a lot less cash.

Well you could put it in one of these and still see the signature.

There is a thread on this on the Duncan Forum. Based on the specs Evan lists for it, the "Frankie" is a Custom Custom. The unsigned ones are made on the Duncan production floor while the reliced ones are made in the custom shop.

I (and many others) have said for years the CC is the tone of 1984/FW and apparently we were right

Be prepared to kill Edd and cut off his fingers because those are the only things that will give you Ed's tone.

Hey Johnny! I haven't said 'howdy' yet since you started talking around here!

I can't believe I'm going to say this... $149 for the regular Frankie pup isn't too bad. Yeah, it's still an overpriced pickup, but it goes for less than the SD '78, and there are lots of pickups that crack the $100 mark.

If anyone is going to buy one I do recommend getting it from VanHalenStore.com. Jeff could use the business to keep the place going (who else devotes that much time to stocking all things VH?). MF will still do just fine without the business.

    Hi Andrew!
Yeah i have some free time so i thought id join you guys here.
I agree with you about buying from Jeff/VH store.
I sold him some VH posters about 5 or 6 years ago and he's a great guy.
Don't know if Jeff remembers but i used to talk to him on the phone way back in 1990 or 91 when he was in Omaha and i was in Lincoln.

149 is 11 dollars less than the 78. Not really noteworthy imo. The non relic'd one is made on the Duncan production floor (per Evan Skopp, SD VP) and the specs are virtually identical to the SD Custom Custom. If you really want to save a buck buy the CC.
