Default Do any of you insure your gear?

Howdy guys! I don't post often, but I thought someone might be able to provide some insight into insuring gear. I've put together a pretty good collection of equipment over the years, and have recently moved it to a building that I rent off of my Dad.

For all intents and purposes this place is my studio, it's where all of my gear is, where I practice with my band and record. I reaaally want to get this stuff insured, but my local insurance agent says they don't do insurance for studios. Do any of you use MusicPro as an insurance company? There rates seem reasonable, and they supposedly cover theft and accidents. The reviews I have read are mixed. Anybody have any words of wisdom?
    Thanks!

I do insure, absolutely. I've got a hell of a lot of money tied up in music gear. I use a home insurer, but their rates, deductables, and restrictions are fantastic. You just have to hunt around. The only issues most insurers get antsy about is flood and earthquake, but that is so dependant on where you live. It's very worthwhile though.

Since I have a full blown shop with a ton of equipment and gear, I have to insure. If Im ever in need of a buisness loan, I have to have it.
Since you rent your space, look into renters insurance. Most are relitively cheap and the insure for everything. The wife handles all that crap for me.
The hassle is to list, and photo everthing and update often. But if somethin goes down, your covered.

i have renters insurance and here's what I ran into.

Renters insurance covers my gear while it's in my home period. It's covered against theft, fire, etc.

Once it leaves my house, it's on me AND it's not covered period if it's something I use to make money...not even under the renters policy.

Evidently there is a whole other type of insurance that has to be bought for music equipment to be covered if it's being used to gig with and being transported to and from clubs and such.

When we were renting a rehearsal space downtown, at Francisco's for you Houston folks, my insurance company told me no-way. They would not insure gear at a rehearsal space period.

I think what you are looking for is called an "Inland Marine" policy. It is used to insure jewelry and other high value items.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

i insure all my gear with my home insurance, it is covered for theft, fire , accidental damage etc, it is also covered when i am at gigs or at rehersals, but not when its in my car, but my car insurance covers it while its in the car (even when unattended), i do have to prove what everything is though and send photographs and any reciepts.
shop around dude, its well worth a little extra money when you consider the financial and time costs it takes to have and play all this gear.
